Very surprised he hasn't been added to the 40-man.

I think Alvarez may be a guy to keep an eye on. His K rate is back over 9/9, which is his best since 2022 in low A (was it Potomac or Fredericksburg by then?), and his BB rate is his lowest since Wilmington in 2023 (3/9). FIP improved by a run and a half from his first exposure to AAA. He's a lefty and he's getting groundballs. Throws a lot of cutters (40%) this year to go with a 4 seam and a sinker.

He's 26 but he sounds like maybe a marginal middle inning guy.

You're not completely wrong. I could see him as a second lefty in the pen this year. I just think platoons matter.
