splains the power drop. i remembered the hip, but i guess he had a lot of work done. typical hollywood.

he will not earn his contract, but he's still a heck of a hitter.

He’s been on the DL at least 6 times for a minimum of 5 unrelated injuries. Plus had off season surgery for another injury.

Turner has finished 7th, 5th and 11th in MVP voting in the 3 years following 2019?  If that's bad what was the expectation?

That was the expectation, it's this year that he's struggling after signing a massive contract. Even if he regains his form and finishes strong they will be paying him big money until he's 40.

Rendon was pretty good as a Nat, but I didn't mind him leaving in FA.  I could never get onboard with being a fan of his.  I guess it was just the "who cares, not me" attitude he projected, whether he truly felt that way or not (presumably not).

Scherzer is the least bad of the contracts mostly due to the short term. But he sure is getting paid a ton as he approaches 39 years old.

The positive side of this is how lucky the Nats got with Werth and Max into their late 30s.  Few other Boras contracts have worked out like that.

Ouch

"LA Angels position player first half grade: Anthony Rendon
It's the same story once again. Anthony Rendon spent the first half of the season battling injury after injury while putting up subpar numbers offensively. He's even struggled in the field. Despite a lack of power, Anthony Rendon was still driving in runs at an efficient rate being the Angels best hitter with runners in scoring position to start the year, but even that has tailed off.

Overall, the third baseman has slashed .236/.361/.318 with two home runs and 22 RBI. He's drawn a bunch of walks, but I promise you the Angels didn't make him their highest-paid player to just draw some walks. He's played in less than half of their games and might not be ready to go to begin the second half. The contract just keeps getting worse and worse.

Grade: F"

The Angels need to DFA Rendon.  He's just a distraction at this point and the sooner he's gone the faster they can rebuild.  The wasted $100 million+ should be a lesson for Arte he should have learned after Pujols.

Rendon had wrist surgery last season. Maybe they should bat his .361 OBP leadoff instead of the .303 OBP they’re currently running out there.

How does that help them? They still have to pay the salary. They should try and trade him but will need to eat some salary.

Well he would have to be healthy to do that. But a good idea when he is ready. Last night they blew another big lead. They have lots of problems other than Rendon.

I looked up and the Angels are near the top of the league in offense so scoring runs is their problem. I guess the contract hurt them by not leaving money for pitching but what would make anyone think that team wound spend money wisely on some pitching?

The Angels could eat 2/3 of Rendon's salary and trade him back to the Nats for Adon and Abbott, or the equivalent in Wilmington pitchers. Rendon jinxed himself when he went to Los Angeles. Maybe he would slip the jinx if he came back to Washington, where fans loved him.

Pass. I'd rather not take a washed up former fan favorite

A third of Rendon's salary is still 13 million a year.   I doubt he is worth that as a 34-36 year old when he can't stay on the field now.

I will never bad mouth what Rendon did in his time here. For a stretch, he might have been the most unheralded superstar in baseball. For about 4 or 5 years, he was on the short list. That said, I'm not sure I'd have him back even if we swapped him for Strasburg, which would be break even in money. At this point, I think I'd rather take my chance on an internal option or another FA.

Oh, I think I would take Rendon back at $5 - 10 million just to say "hail and farewell" to Rendon in a Nats uniform. To be realistic, though, Rendon looks finished: broken, miserable, furious at himself and the baseball gods and the fans who once cheered him.

I vaguely remember comments about Rendon not loving baseball and not playing late in his career. I feel like maybe he got paid and now he's coasting a bit. I would not want him back on that contract.
