your point is saving his arm, not "he stinks." You said his mechanics looked off, so why push.

Dude has never gotten through a season without an injury. And he's coming off elbow soreness that basically cost him  four months. They absolutely have to treat him with kids gloves this season

Dude has never gotten through a season without an injury. And he's coming off elbow soreness that basically cost him  four months. They absolutely have to treat him with kids gloves this season

He had the four months last year and the off-season to rest.  No reason he cannot throw 100 pitches now.  I believe he pitched less than 100 innings last year so that is what I would keep an eye on. At some point they should shut him down. In the meantime they need to see if he can be a real starter.

Cool. They can see next year. This year they need to see if he can actually stay healthy for longer than a couple months. So throwing him out for an extra inning after consecutive stressful ones is increasing the chance of an injury for no value. Keep him around 85-90 pitches unless he is cruising. Theres no point in risking any of our pitchers' health to build them up in a meaningless season.
