Ohtani pitches a gem and of course the Angels lose to a terrible team.

Game time in opening day was about a half hour less than last year on average. Stolen bases up from 5 to 21.  More hits also.

Saw it mentioned on the baseball subreddit but offensive momentum seems to be much more of a thing now with the pitch clock and basestealing changes.

Seattle fans kept counting down the clock in an effort to mess with the guardians pitcher tonight but it didn’t work

The Rangers rotation could be scary in a few years.

Wild day in SD. Padres had a 5-1 lead including a HR by former Nats great Nelson Cruz.  DBacks now lead 8-5. Funny to see stands almost filled up at a game.

Almost all day games today and getaway day. Just one night game. And almost all the day games start at or before 2:00.

I see Manny was thrown out for a pitch clock violation. What was his beef?  Gave  Broomstick a chance to go deep.

I saw where the Padres stopped season ticket sales because they wanted to save some seats for non-season ticket holders.

Drama in St Louis. Tyler O'Neill was thrown out at home, trying to score from second, on a hard hit single right at Acuna.

O'Neill got called out by his manager and benched today.

Manager is an absolute dick.  If he wanted to lose the clubhouse within the first month, publicly berating players and then doubling down on same is a nice way to get to that goal.   That's some Matt Williams 1950s "I'm in charge because I'm in charge" level crap.

I want to punch that MF and I hate the Cardinals.

He did the same thing to Harrison Bader last year.

Like, its pretty obvious from the video that O'Neill speeds up at one point. Its also pretty obvious that Trea Turner would have gotten thrown out on that hit.

Yeah, I assumed from the video that he sped up because he had slowed down assuming he was going to take a turn and stop.  Because, as you say.

I was watching live and was wondering how he did not score with two outs. Possible he did not run hard because he assumed there would be no throw with that run not being significant.  Cards announcers didn’t say a thing about the baserunning. Just saluted the throw.

In any event the best fans in baseball will know how to feel.

Two outs or not, that was a 2-hop missile right at an outfielder who charged and has a very good arm, who then made an accurate throw.

Yea third base coach should have held him in any event. I have not watched a replay so don’t remember how hard it was hit.

Very hard, and right to Acuna's glove side.  Other than a high one-hopper, you couldn't pick a better ball to throw from.  Not a chance in hell he should have been sent.

Ball was 99.5 off the bat, right at a perfectly positioned RFer with a great arm.  That never should have been a send. I honestly had to look up Bob Henley's wiki page to see if the Cards had hired him.

But there is a great overhead camera that you can see him look into RF and then speed up when he sees the throw. So he was clearly not running flat out. And his sprint speeds this year are down from previous years.

O'Neill dealt with injuries last season and the bases were slick. Additionally, the Cards outfield is pretty stacked. I gotta think in the back of O'Neil's mind is that if he gets injured again, he probably loses any chance of regular playing time.

Dodgers out of the gate with a 4-2 start. Apparently losing key player after key player does not affect this team.

It helps to have owners willing to spend even when previous spending has failed and a farm system that actually produces players.
