Phillies lose again. At the end of weekend one the Nats are in third, 1.5 back of first.

Mets get blown out. Nats only a game out. Will this be the closest they get all year?

Other than the 5-way tie on opening day? Yeah, probably.

Nats remain in 3rd place, 2 games back, despite opening the season 1-3.

So two games back after four games. At that rate they could finish 80 out of first.

if we finish ahead of Philly, the season has been a resounding success. :)

Phillies 1B Darick Hall out with torn ligaments in his thumb. He was the primary replacement for Hoskins. Like to be out at least a couple of months.

Thus is encapsulated the Faustian bargain of playing first base for the Phillies.  Major league salary, yes.  Also physical pain and a Philadelphia zip code.

You've gone to far, 'cause you know it don't matter anyway.  You can rely on the old man's money; you can rely on the old man's money.

Most notable Temple grads:

1 Natsinpwc
2 Darryl Hall
3 John Oates (singer not the catcher)
4 Natsinpwc’s brother
5 Hassan Reddick
6 Bob Saget
7 Kevin Hart
8 Tom Sizemore
9 Tamron Hall

A certain comedian used to be on the list but has been expunged from the records.

Edit. Forgot to add Joe Klecko but not convinced he actually graduated.

Bryce is gonna learn first base
makes a ton of sense given the injuries there for them. I'm a little surprised they didn't try Castellanos there, but I don't think Harper is sliding into RF anytime soon. Picking up 1st gives them flexibility

Castellanos has 5 outfield assists this year.

He always had a decent arm, he's just slow and takes bad routes. Lot of folks are testing because he's a DH playing thr OF, but the dude always had a great arm

the funny thing is, if you were going to shift a guy to first, Castellanos came up as an infielder.  I guess they don't want to play Marsh or Pache in a corner and would rather have some bat, any bat, at first.  I'm sure they thought about Schwarber at first too.

I'm pretty sure I've read that both Castellanos and Schwarber were butchers at 1st when given opportunities there before.

Edit: Looks like Castellanos has never played 1st before so I must have just been conflating the two together.

Three game saving catches in one post season. I will take it.

But he is lumbering.

So, the question is, do they look game saving because he struggled to be in position before having to dive? Because thats probably the case. An average or above average OFer probably gets there well before the need to dive comes up.

Mister October Glove.

Easiest thing for the Phillies to do is move Bohm to 1B full time for now and Sosa to 3B. And shoot Pache to the moon.
