People with knowledge: the Nationals have agreed to terms with catcher Keibert Ruiz on an eight-year extension that includes two club options that could bring total value to $50M.

Correlation?
Theres no way Boras would have let him sign away three years of free agency. Not without some sort of opt outs. Would have been fine with 50 million in exchange for 1 year of free agency. 3 plus two options is freaking stealing.

Wow, this is awesome. At first glance I thought this seems extremely team friendly. But considering it goes through his pre-arb and arb years it seems fair for both sides. Great news.

Luis Garcia made the same move from Boras to Octagon Sports, maybe he's next.

They should be cautious with Luis. If he can’t hit he is totally worthless with that defense. The jury is still out on whether he can play 2B.

From Ruiz’s perspective doesn’t this seem like an awful deal?   AAV of less than $7 million a year.
Fangraphs valued his 2022 performance at $13.8 million.

He wouldn't have hit arbitration until 2025 IIRC, but still this is awesome!

Well, the higher pay up front probably is worth more in a high interest environment, so those out years of free agency are worth less.  Add in the risk of catching (knees, concussions, other contact), there's a lot going for signing early.

As for me,  the only jersey I ever bought was Soto.  Stuck away from Rendon, JZ, other favs because they weren't locked  up.  I think I buy a Ruiz City Connect.

Yes. Not possible if he had stayed with Boras.

I have plenty of Nats T-shirts but have never bought a jersey. I think a Ruiz jersey is in my near future.

My favorite is a Zimmermann jersey. Ironically one of the best non-signings they’ve ever made

I heard the Nats extended Ruiz for 8 years, $50 million, with a couple of options.

Really deserves a thread.

To be fair, I think "extend Ruiz" maybe should be closed and the post-agreement posts be merged into G-burg's thread.  Good job G-burg.

Yes, please!  Great news on Ruiz.  Who represents Abrams?  Tell me it's not Boras!
