Can't believe it's almost Opening Day - that heady mix of excitement for the season ahead, and poignancy knowing that it means that the Nats season is drawing to a close...

Every source I've read has the Chiefs down as red-hot favorites to defend their title - so, in time-honored Chiefs fan fashion, we shall expect an Opening Day loss...

The standout from Roster Day was Buchele being placed on waivers. Difficult for him - we'd be sad to see him go, but recognize that he's too good a QB to have no chance of ever getting anywhere near the starting line-up. He deserves more than to be a permanent No3...

Mahomes perfect Opening Day streak, since becoming the starting QB, comes to an end. The Chiefs also fail to tie the Patriots for the longest inter-conference winning streak in the Super Bowl era, ending at 16 games. (Patriots set the record, of 17, from '05 to '09). Lions first win, over Chiefs, since 2011.

Looks like more work required to get Mahomes and the WR's in sync...

I heard yesterday on the radio there have been at least 4 new teams in the playoffs every year. Some years the playoffs were expanded but in general that also means 4 teams out from the prior year. I think Minny and the Giants miss it with Detroit and the Rams getting in. Think Buffalo and Cincy are out in the AFC with the Jets and Steelers in.

The rule of thumb is that half the teams are new. I think no chance on the rams. I think they had the fourth best odds for worst record when I looked and a 6.5 over under. Vegas gets things wrong all the time, but usually not that wrong.
