He's probably more defensively versatile in the infield than Alu, but I don't see taking playing time from Alu or even Vargas. The bat has not shown it can play since the Betts deal. Alu could be serviceable at either 3rd or 2nd defensively and just seems to have better, more consistent ABs. As for Vargas, playing Downs would require a real future-focus because right now, day-in, day-out, Vargas is probably the 5th best guy in our line-up (Thomas, Abrams, Ruiz, maybe Meneses).
