I am planting my flag now that signing him was one of the smartest, if not the smartest, things Rizzo and Co. did this offseason. Granted, it was kind of a no-brainer, but Downs is a 24 year old former top prospect with position versatility who put up massive minor league numbers in 2018 and 2019. I understand that he couldn't hit AAA pitching once he got to the Red Sox organization, but something something change of scenery.

I believe he is a piece of the puzzle and I am prepared to die on this hill. Go Jeter go!

He's a good middle infield lottery ticket.  This last chance saloon stuff for prospects is very 2009, but one good outcome is enough to justify the shotgun approach at least for a year.
