We all knew Riley Adams had power potential. It didn’t show last year. It is this Spring. Is it time to wonder if he should actually be in Rochester hitting everyday at 1B/DH? Or just be happy to have a backup C who makes pitchers think for a moment?
Nah, what we'll do is keep him on the bench, then let him go in a coupke years, only for him to play at borderline all star level once he gets consistent playing time

Meneses not back until Tuesday or Wednesday. :)

CJ still recovering. It's Dom and the backups in the infield.

Not sure a veteran pitcher is working on a pitch but he may not be pitching full effort either.

I know OF in some Florida spots is horrid due to wind and sun, but Call is getting abused in left.

Seven hits and five runs is a lot of work.

Good practice. On the radio they mentioned that pitchers might throw pitches to batters that they would not in a real game. For instance if the hitter likes the ball low and in you would not go there in regular season. But don’t care in spring.

This is why I didn't like the Williams signing. Dude is a swing man at best

They didn’t want to spend money required for a real starter. Expect lots of Espino and Abbot this year as starters. And of course Kuhl. It’s 2007-09 again.

I liked it up until I heard they were viewing him strictly as a starter.  He's a nice reliever.

St Louis! Drink!

I guess this wasn't a great year for FA starters. Not as deep as last year, but I have wanted them to look at giving some years at < $10 million AAV to establish some depth.

Base running error.  Drink.

Williams was brought into be a deadline trade piece.  If he pitches badly enough, might actually keep him another year.

Maybe the "deadline trade piece" does not exist. Consider last season: Cruz, Cesar Hernandez, Maikel Franco...just those I remember. None of them brought anything at the deadline. Maybe the only players were bringing in are those good enough to play regularly all season.

We had a bit better success in 2021 with dealing at the deadline.

Schwarber was a deadline deal also. Would have brought more had he not been hurt. He was $10 million and the Lerners don’t want to pay that now.

2 year contract. I think he was supposed to be a transition piece more than the 1 year guys like Candy and Corey who are trade bait.

Scharber was not brought in to be a deadline trade piece. He became one when it became clear that Strasburg would not pitch, which shifted the Nats into rebuild. Otherwise, Schwarber, Sherzer, and Turner, and the others were players, important players as the Nats made one more try for the playoffs.

It was a one year deal so a smart GM like Rizzo knew it was a possibility.

Ehire Adrianza got flipped at the deadline last year after signing on a 1 year and being hurt a lot.  It's possible.

I’m ready for the season. Purchased a new Nationals cap.  Blue version with the white curly W with a bit of red.
