Zuckerman reports that Doolittle has temporally stopped throwing, but he has not suffered an injury.

Quote
Sean Doolittle reported for spring training at full strength, and he joined his Nationals teammates as a full participant through the first week-plus of camp. He started thinking about making the Opening Day roster, completing his recovery from surgery to repair a torn elbow ligament in near-record time.

That’s when the team’s medical staff stepped in and questioned if the veteran left-hander should be pushing himself to that extent. And after some consultation, they came to the conclusion it wasn’t worth it.

That’s why Doolittle has been ramped down for the moment. He’s not throwing a ball this week, focusing instead on strengthening exercises. He doesn’t know exactly when he’ll start ramping up again, but he insists none of this was precipitated by any kind of setback.

“Nothing specifically happened,” he said. “I think when we started to look at what it was going to take to ramp up, and where I was at, I was ahead of schedule probably by almost a month. I did have some days when I was a little more sore than I had been throwing in the offseason. Nothing bad, but we started thinking about it. We’re so far ahead, let’s slow it down a little bit.”

it's a new approach - treat people as if they are injured "before" they get injured.

training for being injured. That's a breakthrough for our medical staff, inspired by Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber.

They are also working on technology that will allow for the release of game stats before the game is completed.

Yankees seem to have a regular-season line-up out there, at least for the first few innings.

ESPN can't even pretend to care about what's happening with the Nationals. Injured player? Let's cut away to interview a Yankee.

Probably goes without saying but James Wood is ASTONISHINGLY talented. The physical gifts are up there with any player the Nats have ever had and that includes Harper. Just a long, fast, powerful kid with phenomenal bat speed.

Also, Abrams is electric man. He has a chance to be one of the most dynamic players in the sport. He’s as rangy as any shortstop in baseball full stop, he’s obviously a threat on the basepaths AND he’s a natural hitter with improving bat speed. Again, quite early but he’s hitting the ball a bit harder thus far and the bat looks quicker to my eye. He’s still a fledgling of course, but I think Rizzo got that eval right (if you remember the speculation was that Rizzo just straight up preferred Abrams to Volpe who he also liked but didn’t see star upside with).

James Wood is going to dominate the MLB intramural basketball league this season.

Fooled by an inside curveball on a 2-2 count.

But in just 2:30.

Spring training is to get you ready for regular season losses.

Abrams was asked about the clock and larger bases. He said he no issues with the clock because he got used to it in El Paso and that he liked the larger bases (also had them in El Paso).  Seems like the recent minor leaguers will have an easier time with the pitch clock.

His size and looping swing from the left side remind me of Darryl Strawberry.

He's an inch taller so not that far off.
