Chip Carey now doing the Cards games on TV. Does not get much better than that/s.  Had to turn the volume way up to hear anything. And then the commercials are way too loud. Does not seem to be any Nats radio broadcast to synch it up to. Oh well.

how are you watching it?

Pllease tell me Gore isn't hurt and was only scheduled to pitch one inning?

Every Washington pitcher has thrown a single inning.

Note that the Cardinals broadcasters know who the Washington plkayers are, and know some of the stories about them.

Things we love to see! Would’ve been on base thrice but for the missed ball four.

the jury is still way out, but i'm still of the belief that trading Soto was the right move given the haul we got for him.

Agreed. I'm not so happy with the Dogers the team got for Max and Trea.

I’m inclined to agree if you restrict the analysis to the haul and the state of the organization at the time of the deal. The issue everyone here rightly had was that the organization found itself in the type of disrepair that required moving off of a HoF/Fof type player. But you’re right. The talent acquired (with the potential years of control included) likely proves to be proper or even excess value for two and a half years of Juan Soto, especially when you consider that his contribution  would’ve been wasted on a cratering team.

You have to consider it was 2 and a half years of Soto they traded. Versus a year and a half of Trea and a couple months of Max. You still got two regulars.  And guys like Thomas and Adams in other trades that year.

Not a secret that the Juan Soto trade from the Nationals perspective relied on a belief in Gore's medicals. I personally don't trust this front office on medicals, but if they were right on the Gore evaluation then we got as good a return for Soto than we could have hoped.

Ship has sailed, but yeah, I like to have speed, along with a pitch clock, it makes the game more exciting.    CJ is the kind of player who'll keep you tuned in anytime he gets on base.

Sure, although Keibert R. seems like a solid catcher. I'm not so optimistic about Gray. My backwards wish is that the Nats had extended Max after 2019, and that they had paid the money to Turner.

The pitch clock makes a big difference. They should have done this ten years ago. Around that time I saw a Vanderbilt game in Nashville with a clock and was a believer.

This is a real make or break year for Gray and seeing if the Scherzer-Turner trade was worth it. A big sell was moving them and other huge contracts opened up salary flexibility to sign Soto. Instead, the team became a small market club overnight. Ruiz will be our catcher for a while, so big plus for him. But if Gray can't at least establish himself as a middle of the rotation starter on a winning team, that trade was really poor for the Nationals.

(And a chance to see all those new guys the team collected from various scrap-heaps)

While I don't disagree from an objective standpoint, I think it should be clear that this was always the most likely outcome of the trade. Trading superstars for prospects rarely works out for the team receiving the prospects.
