Scharber was not brought in to be a deadline trade piece. He became one when it became clear that Strasburg would not pitch, which shifted the Nats into rebuild. Otherwise, Schwarber, Sherzer, and Turner, and the others were players, important players as the Nats made one more try for the playoffs.
