Maybe the "deadline trade piece" does not exist. Consider last season: Cruz, Cesar Hernandez, Maikel Franco...just those I remember. None of them brought anything at the deadline. Maybe the only players were bringing in are those good enough to play regularly all season.
Schwarber was a deadline deal also. Would have brought more had he not been hurt. He was $10 million and the Lerners don’t want to pay that now.
