in a perfect world, we get ~3.25 - 3.75 ERAs this year from Gore, Cavalli, and Gray with around 25 starts.

Really, really wish Rizzo had traded Soto for Walker

That would probably set the Nats up as a top-10 rotation going into 2024.

So maybe Matt Adams still has value?

Would be happy if they have ERAs between 4.00 and 4.50 and average at least 5 innings a start.

Didn’t sound like they wanted to give him up as I recall.  They had no need for Bell as a toss in either. That upped the return.

No one has confirmed what the Cards offer was, but I gotta imagine Walker was the center piece

Still think the Pads trade us what they traded at the deadline. Maybe a "lesser" prospect than Susana

I think reports were that Susana required Bell in the deal.  As for the Cards, I thought Rizzo was going after Dylan Carlson?

There are a few articles out there with conflicting information.  I think Carlson was a sticking point also but this articles says Gorman and Wynn were the centerpieces.

Well sure so no reason to get excited about anyone they could have had.

not great for team unity and player attitude if they were to say any of the guys still on the team were offered.

Nice outings for Gray and Cavalli yesterday.

Offense needs to get going.  Team OBP ranks 28 of 30 so far this Spring and they're dead last in walks.

They did pretty much nothing to improve the offense other than taking fliers on a few bounce-back candidates. The only hope is continued improvement by Abrams, Garcia, and Ruiz.

Good point.  The payroll for hitters could be the lowest in MLB.

dead last in walks?  Not a surprise. It's a feature, not a bug.  Only 3 returning players had higher than an MLB average walk rate of 7.4% last season - Call (9.6%), thomas (7.5%) and Adams (7.7%). Even Ruiz, who doesn't K (11.5%), hasn't walked (6.9%), either.

FWIW, in terms of k%, MLB average was 20.4%. Only 3 other players were lower - Abrams, Ruiz, and Vargas.

To sum it up, this isn't team plate discipline.

Agree. Too bad there was no TV to see. I think it takes the hitters a while to get going. Maybe august for the Nats?
