Sebastian Korda into the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Maybe he can catch up to his golfing sisters in terms of fame and titles.

3 other Americans still alive and at least one more will make the quarterfinals.

In contrast only Jessica Pegula is alive on the women’s side. She will be watching the Bills game today for sure.

Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton also made the quarterfinals and will face each other there. So at least one American to the semis and maybe two. Most of the top seeds out so looks wide open for Djokovic.

First time USA has three men in a major quarterfinal since 2005. Korda plays tonight.

Shelton is really an interesting story.  Most of the young players go to international tournaments. He went to Florida to play for his Dad and then turned pro. This is his first time outside the USA.

Korda lost.  Lost first set in tiebreak and the hit hurt in second set. Wrist. Retired in the third set. Pegula crashed and burned much like her Bills. Shelton vs Paul tonight for a birth in the semis. Against Djokovic. So that’s as far as one of them will get.

After Fritz and Tiafoe were eliminated, it was great to see some of the lesser known American men advance.  Korda looked good until his last match and the wrist injury.  One of the ESPN commentators stated that Korda has a ceiling of #5 in the world!  I'm excited to see the rise of the Shelton,  J.J. Wolf to some extent and Tommy Paul.  After beating Shelton, Tommy Paul is now ranked #18.  Shelton-Paul was a fun match to watch.  Shelton's serve is unbelievable.

American women were a little disappointing, especially Coco Gauff and also Pegula. 

It looks like 2023 could be a breakout year for American mens' tennis.

After Fritz and Tiafoe were eliminated, it was great to see some of the lesser known American men advance.  Korda looked good until his last match and the wrist injury.  One of the ESPN commentators stated that Korda has a ceiling of #5 in the world!  I'm excited to see the rise of the Shelton,  J.J. Did not see the Shelton/Paul match.  Hope it’s a breakout year but they usually fade in the clay court season. We shall see.

As expected Djokovic takes the American in straight sets. Djokovic faces Tsitsipas in the Final. That’s a slam dunk.

I got up at 4:45 this morning and was able to snag a couple of French Open tennis tickets for a day the first week of the tournament when we will be there. Took about 40
Minutes to get through the on line queue.  Ended up buying in the main arena after some thought in case it rains. At least that has a roof.  Second level but didn’t seem too bad. We can watch on the outside courts also as well as the upper section of the third stadium.  Was not too bad at about 90 Euros for each ticket.

I will be the one without the straw hat and button down white shirt.
