I'm surprised by Candy's fielding but a little disappointed with his hitting. He's playing almost like Vargas with more pop. Think I'm kidding? Vargas 2022 with the Nats - .280 /.308 /.398 - .118 ISO. Candy 2023 - .226 / .274 / .379 - .153 ISO.

I'd prefer Kieboom not being a default at 3rd who gets rolled out regardless of how he's doing to see if he can eventually be a regular major leaguer. I prefer him to have to show that he can field the position and hit well again in the minors before his next call up. I prefer Jake Alu be given an equal shot at taking over the position. If Candy's doing well, then I might give him a bit of a leash to see if he becomes a trade asset, but if he is just a glove with a light bat, well, that's Vargas.

There's plenty of room at 1st base if Kieboom does okay on his rehab assignment and they want to bring him up.  I think he's out of options, or maybe has one year left, so they have to do something with him.

My expectation was that they were going to shift Kieboom to 1B but he's playing 3B initially. Candelario is only on a one year deal and he's been a serviceable 1B. I don't see Kieboom on the mlbtr "out of options" list so maybe they can keep him in Rochester until he shows that he's an improvement of Candelario or until they cut/trade Smith?

Seems to me that if you're looking at the future, then you shift Candelario to first or the bench and play Kieboom at third.

Candelario was brought in to be a trade deadline piece, the future has him as a Dodger, Padre, or Met.

We haven't seen Kieboom in a while but from recollection, I'm comfortable stating that Jeimer's defense at 3rd is top notch, wheres Carter's is not.

Kieboom has hardly played the last three years.

He got a decent amount of playing time in 2021, but he has a grand total of 414 plate appearances across 3 years (2019-2021).

Maybe Im just SSS, but he hit well in August of 2021 and started September off nice too, but trailed off. Then we find out in 2022 ST that he tore his elbow. Kinda wondering if thats been the issue and now that its resolved, he can succeed. And on a lost season, I dont know why we wouldnt at least try and give him a chance

Let's not get carried away with a 3 game  winning streak that left us 5 games below .500.  Candelario is here to be replaced by August. Frankly, Dom is more likely to be with the Nats at the end of the year than Candy because he has another year of control.

I would like to see more of an open competition between Kieboom and Alu for Candy's slot than a coronation of the heir apparent. Ideally, one of them kicks the door in and sends Candelario to the bench or another team. Otherwise, one of them should get a shot in August.

FG has Kieboom as having one more option. I guess he was up on the roster or DL'd all of 2020 so he didn't burn one, then got an extra option for sitting out 2022 with an injury.

I’m kinda opposite. Lost season so why rush it.  Let him have a good month or two.

Oh Im good with that. But around July, he should be coming up to the big leagues. And if he does, he should get to start for the rest of the season. Time to find out if he can hit

Agree. If on the big league roster needs to play every day.

Oh, we are so agreeable today. Need more bitterness.  The only thing I think that could break this approach would be if Candy was hurt sometime in the next few weeks. Then I think it would be Alu over Kieboom. After that, maybe it's a fair fight.

Kieboom has played just one rehab game. Let's see if he can hit first before we jump to any scenarios.

There's like a 95-99% chance Kieboom is a total turd, as he has already proven. Making literally any plans for him at the major league level is a waste of time. Thinking he's a "prospect" still is total copium.

If Robles and Corbin can turn it around, for at least a month, then Kieboom can too.

Hitting .235 in Triple A. Hard pass.

Candelario will fetch a minimum return.  He and Smith aren't exactly going to be missing pieces for a contending team.

Someone has a 3B injured and that will have them looking at Candy. Smith won’t draw any interest the way he is hitting.  Triple A player at this point.

Kieboom has always been a butcher at 3B. Nats have a good fielder now. Giving Kieboom time at third? It will be a step back in hopes that, maybe, Kieboom has finally learned to field. And then there is his hitting...

He’s a left fielder

Kieboom: the search for a position for a player who can't field and has never hit. Reminds me of Shirley Povich's lead: "Bobby Burke, who had a nine-year tryout with the Senators, was released today..."

Yea but you said Robles could not hit and he is doing fine this year. No reason to not give Kieboom a chance on a losing squad.

On grounds that a 3B does not need to field?
