It is known that the team made offers to Soto before the trade and there have been reports that there was an offer made to Scherzer before he was traded. Did the team make offers to Turner and/or Bell that they declined before they were traded?
Per this:https://www.sportscasting.com/trea-turner-criticized-nationals-lack-extension-offer-prior-trade/ the Nats offered Turner 6 years / $100 million in 2020. It was. ridiculous low-ball offer. Turner said he was open to negotiation but the Nats never came back to him.I've never seen any reports of Nats extension offers to Bell or Scherzer.
In the NL East, you've seen the Braves consistently draft and develop elite talent while building a high payroll major league club. What strategies can the Nationals try to copy as the club rebuilds?I feel like that's a nice way to be "what the heck were you doing the second half of the 2010's"
Turner had three arb seasons left at that point, so that offer only covered his first three free agent seasons. Definitely $100 million was a low ball offer but it doesn't say that he made a counter offer. Definitely the team made Scherzer and offer but I haven't seen the terms.
As of April of 2021, Rizzo said there had been no extension talks with Max. Rizzo was pretty evasive with regard to if the Nats planned to try and extend him.https://www.federalbaseball.com/2021/4/2/22362444/washington-nationals-will-not-let-max-scherzer-walk-without-extension-talks
I'm pretty sure an extension was offered. Which might be a good question for the Q&A, although maybe the past is done and the better questions would be about how to transform the team into more of a Tampa style operation where they compete with a lower budget.
The Braves rebuild lasted a grand total of four losing seasons (two were at basically .500 and none had 100 losses). The Nats are about to have their 4th losing season and by most accounts the rebuild is only just getting started. Not great by comparison.
I would ask what makes them think that Joey Meneses' 2023 season is real - and not the track record he recorded in the 10 seasons prior?
I sent in a question that'll give Sciallaba a chance to boast about a prospect who is off the radar of most evaluators. His chance for revenge on those who dis the system. Using a little psychology to see if he'll answer it.As for pre or post event drinks, nice idea. Perhaps Atlas?
