Ballot is out, and Jayson Werth is on it.

Wow, lots of familiar names. Ellsbury? Lackey? Napoli? Do any of these guys have a chance? Beltran should but he's got the cheating scandal hanging over him, would be tough for him to get in no?

i don't think Beltran gets in this year though he's got the numbers.

Rolen is probably a lock. Wagner and Helton should also get in.

I think it's Rolen's time. I think Helton and Wagner get in, but not until at least next year. I think they come up just a bit short.

Longtime first baseman Fred McGriff was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the only player elected out of the eight nominees under consideration by the 16-person Era Committee. McGriff was a unanimous vote, getting votes from all 16 members.

Twelve votes were required for selection, and of the other seven players on the ballot, Don Mattingly came closest with eight votes.  Curt Schilling received seven votes, Dale Murphy six votes, and the other candidates (Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmeiro) each got fewer than four votes.

Crime Dog should have gotten in first time round. Good for him.

JAWS doesn't make a strong case for McGriff - https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_1B.shtml

Mark Teixeira, with pretty much identical JAWS scores, only got 1.5% of the vote in 2022.

clean rep had a lot to do with him, while it probably is keeping Palmeiro out.

10,000 PA
130+ OPS+
50 something WAR at a position that’s usually stacked with good hitters.

I’m a big Hall guy so 10,000 PA or 3,000 IP is all that’s needed.

I don't mind the selection, but I think you look at the treatment of him vs. Bonds vs. Palmeiro, and you have to think PED suspicions had something to do with him getting in.  Mattingly was clean, too, but really had a shorter peak early then sort of hung on too long.  To the extent WAR matters, Mattingly only reached about 40.  McGriff had more good seasons late in his career on top of the nice early start.

Bonds and Palmeiro have HOF numbers as does Rose. I think they should be in as well. How to you tell the history of baseball’s greatest players and omit Bongs,Palmeiro,Clemens,Joe Jackson,Pete Rose and duo of Sosa/McGwire?

Keith Hernandez seems to be getting bypassed because of the coke crap.

As a big hall guy, I'd add D. Evans.  Both.

I agree with those that say how do you rank the SOBs?  Cap Anson is in there, and, if you buy Ken Burns, he was instrumental to keeping Blacks out of the "majors" as they were considered.  Tell me that's not more destructive than Clemens prolonging his career and picking up an extra Cy or two?  As for Schilling, tell me there aren't 20 living hall of famers and all stars who agree with him but keep their mouths shut?

You might say that the committee was so impressed with Fred McGriff, they gave him their full endorsement.

Rolen all by his lonesome.  Well, there's Fred McGriff from the veterans committee, but Rolen the only one elected on the regular ballot.  helton got 72%, wagner got 68%, Andruw Jones 58%, and Sheffield 55%.  Kent dropped after his 10th time on the ballot.  Beltran (35%) and K-Rod (10%) survive out of the first timers.

It makes no sense that Helton and Wagner weren't elected.

Sadly no votes for Werth.

I continue to be unimpressed by the way the process seems to evolved amongst the voters. Let’s have a public vote regarding who is eligible to vote for the Hall of Fame.

4 more years of eligibility, and a big jump this year from last.  I think he gets in eventually.

Just as long as you don't let the public vote on who gets in, period. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure the first year class of folks with that system would include notables like 'Werthy McWerthface,' 'Arod's Butt Injection,' and 'Curt Schilling's Sock.'

Was there some sort of falling out between him and the Braves?
