heard this one earlier, JCA please remove if this crosses the line, but apparently this was the US's first win in the middle east. :couch:

And if you don't... ;)

Hey English Natsie, thanks for this.  Amazing!  I've never seen that in soccer (only in basketball or football).

Weah Jr. almost scored today.  Too bad he was just barely off side.

My pleasure - I try to bear in mind that what are 'of course' moments , in Europe, are maybe not so known in the US to those who don't follow soccer. Although I've set out to learn much about the history of the game, I'm always grateful to those WNFF'ers who can set me right on baseball events pre-1997, when coverage began, over here. ;) (in 1997, and even today, to some degree, baseball here is in the same position soccer was, in the US, pre the World Cup ('94) and the founding of MLS).

Pulisic was down for a long time on the field.  I couldn't believe that he returned to play the remainder of the first half.  It's really a shame we probably won't have Pulisic back for the Netherlands.  Josh Sargent also left late in the second half with an injury.

They're calling it an abdominal injury, but it seems more likely he took a hit to the nuts. Sure looked like it based on how he was lying on the ground with his hands between his legs.

With Pulisic likely out they need to play Reyna.  Not sure what is going on.

Danny Ainge had a play like that against Notre Dame in the NCAA basketball tournament.

Pelvic contusion is what they were calling it.

Not something I would want to have.

I think someone else here (Mitlen) saw Cruyff play at RFK as a Washington Diplomat...show of hands: anyone else?

I did. I remember my team as a kid got to play soccer on the RFK field before a Dips game one time, too.

Maybe we played you. The field was like a golf green, and we didn’t have cleats, and everyone was sliding around. The cool thing was we actually played the full length of the field.

We did not play the full length. They had multiple fields set up going across the Dips' field so that multiple kids' games could be played at once. I believe the reason we played there was that the Annandale Boys' Club, which ran the league in which I played, sponsored a block of seats or something similar. I remember another time when a friend of ours from Reston had a similar experience.

Celebrating their loss.  Feel bad for the llayers and coaches as the government will be looking for an issue to deflect attention.

Tunisia achieve notable victory over France, but still go out. For 65 minutes it was France Tunisia (10 of the Tunisia players are French - they qualify through parentage, for Tunisia) v France Reserves. More of the 'A' team, for the later stages, but Tunisia hold on. With his approach, Descahmps does his bit for French race-relations... ;)

Both games this morning were worth the price of admission.  And if Mbappe and Griezmann were on the field it's a hell of a B-team!

^^^^

I am pleased to see two consecutive posts in a soccer-related thread using the word "games" instead of pretentious terminology like "matches" or "fixtures."

The Szczesny show has been pretty good.
