Indeed - but the problem is the restricted numbers of visiting fans. When England and Team USA meet, there'll probably only be about 6 to 7 thousand supporters actually following the teams, in a stadium of 50,000+ capacity. Takes much of the passion out of the atmosphere - how many England and US fans would be there if the game was being played in, say, Germany.... ;)

For Qatar, the issue is more political - they were regarded as a Western supporting nation, in the region, just quietly going under-the-radar. Now they're having to deal with all of the issues, and criticism, which would never have arisen if not for the WC...

And, even against Argentina, I couldn't root for the Journalist Murderers... ;) If Infantino wants to be an apologist for Islamic repression, that's up to him - but it doesn't mean we all have to be. Why root for those whose ideal would be the overthrow of all of the values we hold in the West?
eh, the Germans would probably ban the English fans anyway.

You have not been doing enough atonement for the last 3000 years of your repression.  :hysterical:

Upset alert. Did not see much of the game but looks like Germany had the ball 75% of the time.

Big win for Japan, just goes to show what happens when your fans clean up the stadium  :D

The Japan/Belgium game in the last WC was probably the craziest game I have ever watched.  This was close.

As many commentators have noted, Putin's actions in Ukraine have ended the era of Western apologism, in Europe... ;)

Come on Canada!!! :D

As it's Belgium and Canada, I wonder if, at the end of the game, instead of swapping shirts they'll swap waffle recipes?...

Belgian defence really not comfy when Canada get behind them - if only the Maples had more self-belief, in front of goal... ;)

Really soft goal, against the run of play, for Belgium - but poor defending, alas...Has to be said that Belgium still look look a team that has gone past it's sell-by date...

Some hapless officiating - the referee is supposed to make a decision, not just stand and watch until someone else tells him... :hysterical:

Japan result not such a surprise - the German national team isn't the force of old (they went out at the Group stage, in 2018, so it's quite possible...) whilst Japanese soccer has been developing nicely, thank you... ;)

Really frustrating - more composure, and quality, in front of goal and Canada could be 3 - 1 up... ;)

Well done, Canada - 0 - 0 would have been a just result.  Any side of quality will take this Belgian side apart... ;)

Think Ronaldo will have a big game today. He seems to thrive on the controversy.  And on the Big Stage.

I wonder if the Ghanian goalkeeper plays left-handed guitar?... ;)

Wonderful moment, in the UK commentary - 'he (Ronaldo) clearly hadn't any idea about the archaeology behind him...' (what???:hysterical:

I'm led to believe that the Fox ad, for the game, describes England as a 'Global Powerhouse'...

Now, I know that the US is the home of hyperbole, but really???...  :hysterical:

I had the same thought.  All those major tournament titles you must have missed.

Whoever is playing the us is a power house. It makes it much easier to excuse the losses
