why not? Haven't the Nats treated their fanbase like Bauer treats others?

Seems the guardians would be the most likely landing spot.

Lol

He dumped Castro pretty quick.

I also think Rizzo would have to give a pretty hefty salary to convince Bauer to come to baseball purgatory.

No way Bauer's getting anything on top of what the Dodgers are paying him, so nobody now is going to offer him more than the minimum.  If he gets more than 1 offer it'll all be about fit.

Seems the guardians would be the most likely landing spot.

They already ran him out of town once for antics far less serious than what the Dodgers dumped him for.

Never overlook the “oops, mistakes were made, we good?” rationale that relies on short memories. Asterisks say hi

At first I thought it would be good for the Nats to pick up Bauer but then I thought about when Papelbon was a Nat. Also, Carson Wentz gave his suite at FEDEX field to Sam Howell's family. Taylor Heinicke suggested Howell start the final game.

It's more about winning. It's also about liking the team you're rooting for. No Bauer.

Lot of former teammates spoke highly of Bauer as a teammate.

My point wasn't whether he was a good teammate, it was is he someone a fan would want to root for. Clearly he is not. One executive said it's a stain on the organizations reputation and also the backlash from it's fans.

Also, if a Harper was a team cancer it's okay to choke him?

I wonder how much he left on the table with Boras's "we don't negotiate after medicals" hard line stance?   He sure has his clients toe the line to protect the other clients (and Boras's commissions).

Pending a physical.

At this rate, by April the Nats will be able to sign him for 2 months at $15.75/hr plus tips.

his issue was the out years on the long contracts due to the projections about arthritis where he had surgery. Shorter is safer.  Twins also know his meds, so I don't think the physical would reveal anything they don't know.  Nice salvage job by Boras.

After the pin-striped Delilahs shore him of his superpowers.  Nice park to play out the twilight of one's career in I suppose.

Adam Duvall to the Red Sox. One year and $7 million. He would have helped the Nats offensively and defensively. And could perhaps be flipped at the deadline. LAC.

If he's healthy, then it'll be "Green Monster, meet Mr. Duvall.  Mr. Duvall, meet the Monster."  This is a nice way to let Ki-ke' play middle infield.

Here are two links. One shows how MLB attendance has decreased since 2014 not counting 2020 and 21 because of the pandemic. The other shows MLB salaries have now hit a record $4.5B.

Is MLB counting on increased TV revenue to make up the difference?  The 10 and 13 year contracts seem to be chancy if the attendance trend is down.

I read somewhere else where revenues were up this year and reached pre pandemic levels.  I think most of the revenue nowadays is from the TV deals.  And soon there will be patches on team uniforms and such. In person attendance seems less important than it once was.

IIRC, each team gets $60 million from the current TV deals. On average, Teams make about $40 million from local TV deals as well. So that's a pretty good baseline before adding in revenues from ticket sales and other marketing efforts.
