Giants all-in on Judge:

https://www.nj.com/yankees/2022/10/giants-on-mission-to-steal-aaron-judge-from-yankees-they-wont-be-underbid.html?mibextid=cszuSN
weird phrasing.  "won't be underbid" sounds like they are committed to being the lowest bidder.

For the first time since 1950, there project to be no U.S.-born Black players in the World Series.

Wow!

unlike 1950, there will be a US born Black manager.

It’s worth considering where the owner-turned-commissioner, the purveyor of the piece of metal, and general ownership have been as far as priorities. Let’s see what enterprising reporter tries to get Dusty‘s thoughts on that.

Maybe because that’s what is commonly meant by that phrase?

I miss editors. I’m just going to pretend they meant outbid

To be fair, it was a direct quote.   It is nonsensical though.

I'm guessing what was meant is that they will not lose him to another team by underbidding them? "Be underbid" meaning "be an underbidder?"

Whatever the term not sure why the Giants would be all in on Judge. They overachieved in 2021 but aged this year.  Not sure they have enough to be a contender even with peak Judge. And they sell lots of tickets regardless of the record.

For home improvements I go with the highest bidder. Fits with my market strategy of buy high and sell low.

That seems fairly crazy to me.   How many closers can be counted on to be good for a year or two, let alone 5 years?!

Money is meaningless to Cohen. And I'm betting they let Nimo walk.

Jacob deGrom has a 30.5 player option for 2023. I gotta believe he's going to opt out of that despite his injury history.

Theres no way he doesnt opt out. And I think Cohen overpays him to stay.

I am more on the fence. I think Cohen spends, but look at last offseason, he also spent on smart signings like Canha, Marte, and Escobar. I don't know if he retains a guy that as he ages seemingly can only pitch for 1/3 of the season. He will command money that will represent pitching for full seasons, but I fear those times have passed.

xander opts out.
https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2022/11/07/xander-bogaerts-opts-out-red-sox-contract-free-agent/?p1=hp_featurestack

I've seen a few mentions of him being on the Phillies radar (they just declined Segura's option).

I'm not sure Nats fans could handle Trea going to Philly, so hopefully they go after Bogaerts instead.
