Baseball business is very weird right now.   The big spenders care about spending to win year after year, but there are other big spenders who will pay huge for stars just because they are stars.   The Dodgers are on a weird island where they are in a great place to live for a millionaire, a chance to win it all every year, and a ridiculous tv deal, and they're able to get players to stay on top dollar/short term deals because of that.   It's all kind of a mess. The stars end up out to pasture on these teams who want them to sell tickets but probably won't ever win.

The current CBA and the local TV mess are good for big star players and teams at the moment, but the Brockmire baseball dystopia is not so far away if they can't figure out some fan friendly moves soon.
