I think he'd be much better off playing 4th line for the Peoria Rivermen than having to deal with the peachtree dishes and gazpacho police.

Nice win although they were dominated the second half of the game. Impressed with the goaltending and that Backstrom has come back. They might even win a playoff series. Well. Probably not.

Ovechkin left the Caps this morning to attend to a family medical emergency and is not expected back this week (not even for the Stadium Series game Saturday).

Have to make a splash at the deadline.   Do whatever we can to deal Backstrom and Carlson

My first game of the year, disappointing.  Carolina played harder, deserved to win.

Carolina is just a better team. Parts I saw they looked OK. Will be tough without Ovi. Need Carlson and Wilson back.

Will be tough to make the playoffs. Currently Caps have the last spot. Islanders one point behind and the Panthers just two. And a couple of other teams lurking.

^^^^

And if I'm not mistaken, the other teams near the Caps in the playoff race have games in hand. Makes it even harder.

That's rough. I remember seeing him a lot at the games.

Caps have that 2020-21 Washington Nationals vibe - very old team that really needs to be blown up and rebuilt (and probably should have been a few years ago). Even Kuemper can't save them (no pun intended)

Exceptionally fun trip—except for the final score. Our seats were exactly at center ice about halfway up the lower level. It was nice to visit Duke again, too. This spring is 25 years since I graduated and I’d only been back once (in 2002). Interesting to see what looked exactly the same and what had changed immensely.

Looks like a fun event. Other than the result as you said. They need to turn it around soon.

Orlov and Hathaway are being held out tonight for 'trade related reasons'? Blow up or try for one last cup with Ovi?

They can ship off a ton of UFAs and reload next year fairly easily. This year was entirely reliant on health of the veterans and they peaked when everyone was back, and then Carlson too a shot to the face, Wilson and Dowd got banged up, Ovy's dad died, etc. Just too much to overcome.

Time to give Johansen, Protas, McMichael some extended run and see what they have.

If they are trading those guys means they have given up on this year.  They won’t get much for those guys as they are short term rentals.  I think they are in a heap of trouble as all their defensemen are free agents and not much available on the market to replace them. So they will be forced to overpay for mediocre veterans. Also not clear what will happen with the coach. As long as the seats are full that’s all that matters to Ted.

They’ve been traded to Boston (Orlov via Minnesota).

Getting a first round pick is good although it will be a late one.

Embarrassing. Trade more guys to get draft picks. Paying Strome was crazy.  Mantha is a bust. Kuznetsov seems uninterested again.
