The best thing is when you sign one of those guys Ruiz will look like a good hitter in comparison.

I'd argue that .251/.313/.360 with 22 doubles & 7 home runs, and a 1.8 oWAR is pretty good for a catcher, especially one who is 24 in his first full season in the majors.  Hopefully he improves his power next year. he posted .260 / .322 / .414 with 4 home runs over his last two months (115 PAs)

If he can match those last couple months production for all of next year I’d be psyched

Ruiz had an OPS + of 95 last year.  He’s adequate defensively but not a good glove. So needs to hit for more power. He’s still young so we shall see.

I said it before, but I'm thinking Pineda especially but also Ruiz should be helped a lot by robo umps.  Ruiz's arm is very good and he's also pretty intelligent when to use it on 1st base pickoffs.  I think his weakness is framing, which robo umps would make a non-issue.

Ruiz is probably the closest thing to an overall strength among the position players. Catcher's  one of the few spots projected to be > 2 WAR that manned primarily by guys we control for 3+  more years who are under 30.

I’d be pretty happy with those projections for Ruiz, Garcia, Abrams, Thomas, and call

Nats are linked to Jo Adell - https://districtondeck.com/posts/latest-nationals-rumors-could-a-jo-adell-trade-happen-01gqdcdkzf5w/amp

article says the price would likely be Finnegan.

Odd. My instinct is to jump at Addell, but Baseball trade values have Finnegan clearly more valuable and Harvey as being a better 1 for 1 with no cash.

Renfroe is a free agent at the end of the yeari, so they aren't going to give away Moniak or Addell. Oddly enough, as bad as Addell has played so far in mlb, he wouldn't be much of a drop off from our expected performance by our starters

Would love to sell high on Finnegan

Would they do Robles straight up for Adell?

I suppose if the Angels wanted competition for Trout. jk.  I think signing Brett Phillips gives them the defensive backup outfielder.  Robles does have an option, so maybe he gives them a different skill set if the plan is to play Adell and Moniak in AAA. Moniak plays some center, but has officially flopped worse than Robles, even current Robles.

I think it was last year that Moniak had a good spring.  Maybe the Kevin Long effect?  Then he broke his finger right before the season started. Problem is his defense is not good enough in CF. And does not hit enough for corner OF.  But .600 slugging and .962 OPS in the minors last year.

Mokiak had a strong ST, then broke his hand the last game. OPS'd .859 in Triple A. Between that and signing Phillips, I dont think they're planning on starting Adell on the MLB roster.

Like, if all the Angels want is Edwards or Finnegan, I say do it

Anyone not acquired in the trades for Scherzer/Turner or Soto/Bell should be available. That and the somewhat promising players that were drafted (Cavalli, Greene, Vaquero).

Basically give them anything not bolted down.

I have no idea if the Adell trade rumor is legit but if it is, that'd be a no-brainer. It's funny, but the stockpiling of former top prospects is like the inverse of what they did to win the World Series.

due $9.75 million. I would not claim him on waivers. If he clears, then make an offer.

I wonder what we could get if we offered Robles and agreed to take money on?

They have their own version of Robles in Duran.

Just put in a waiver claim and see what happens

I don't think a waiver claim makes sense.  I don't think the Red Sox could retract.  Even if they could, they would let us just grab him since they probably can use the CBT benefit. We'd get him for the full $9.75 million he's owed.  I would think the Nats could have / can spend that kind of money on something that is / was more likely to help the team.

Better to deal for him.  While Duran is cheap, I don't think he's anywhere near the class of a defender in the OF as Robles. Robles would be a good platoon partner for Verdugo, tbh.  Boston often goes with CF skills in right (Betts and Bradley have played there) because it is such a tough field, and Robles has enough of an arm to play there.  I maybe think they are content to go with Refsnyder and Arroyo as the backup outfielders, so perhaps it doesn't work.  Not a great fit.  They could most use an upgrade at C or 2B right now (Mondesi is throwing spaghetti at a wall).
