If they really want to get a flippable asset, they should get Cody Bellinger on a rebound, incentive laden deal. Somebody's going to do it and my bet is they'll be glad they did.
We have Cody Bellinger at home

Rizzo is going to lock up Fedde and Robles, re-sign Anibal, call it a winter and you all are going to LIKE IT.

Sources: The Nationals are planning to non-tender Erick Fedde and Luke Voit.

And while either player could sign back with the club, this could very well cap Fedde’s nine-year run with the organization after joining it as a first-round pick in 2014.

Wow on Voit. I mean, I don't understand at all why Voit or Hosmer we're going to be included. Salary relief?

So payroll is going to be bottom dollar unless the team sells. That sale is likely tripped up in the MASN debacle. I also heard that the Lerner family could maybe just find other investors and retain majority ownership stake, which looks to me like no salary increase on the horizon.

Why take YadiStar from the 40-man and then drop Voit?

Otherwise, Fedde deserves to go. Voit looks like a strikeout-magnet, and he is a butcher at 1B.

38 men on the roster after tendering contracts to Victor Arano, Carl Edwards Jr., Kyle Finnegan, Hunter Harvey, Tanner Rainey, Victor Robles and Lane Thomas and signing Vargas.

I don't see this as payroll slashing as much as Fedde isn't really worth the money - even if the payroll was at $200 million like it used to be.  Voit, he's definitely not worth $8.2 million.

A suggestion for a FA for every team, they suggest Joey Gallo for us.

When a guy’s batting average continues to fall below the Mendoza line to 40 points below it, I don’t think so. Also, Kevin Long’s not marching through that door.

I was looking at Joey Gallo's stats and he looks like Ed Brinkman on steroids. Brinkman's batting average with some home runs thrown in.

Fangraphs projects the Nats at 69-93 next season with the roster as it currently stands, and that banks on a lot of innings from Strasburg and Adon.

JCA may not want to read the rest of this post.

This is exhibit bajillion of the idiocy of Fangraphs trying to translate data to the real world via uncritical output-crapting from computer projections.

According to them, Strasburg is going to pitch 90 innings (with a 4.48 ERA!), Gore and Cavalli 129 each, Adon 70, and Cole Henry (who had TOS surgery like 3 months ago and has thrown barely 30 innings above high-a) 18.  Also, Corbin will throw 163 innings with a 4.37 ERA.

I would like to bet the team over there more than a decent sum that no more than one of those guys hits those innings totals.  There's just no connection to the reality that most of those guys can't stay healthy at a level far beyond what the models bake in and the two that can are utter dogcrap against major league hitters.

had a great year in 2021, not so great other years. 3rd best 3B in the MLB in 2020-21 in terms of fWar per MLBTR. I assume this means they pencil him in at 3rd to start the year, with Vargas in a bench role, and Kieboom starting the year in Rochester. Not sure where Alu fits.

It’s a good buy low move.

Lex the league in doubles in 2021 along with an ops+ of 137 in 2020 and 121 in 2022.

Had the lowest babip of his career last year as well (.257)
