I predict Andrew Heaney. That 1.73 HR/9 will slot in nicely with Gray and Corbin.

Or maybe Mike Clevinger.

Zach Eflin not returning to the Phillies. He declined the mutual option of $16 million although I am sure the team would have declined anyway. Knee problems but a good pitcher when healthy. He undoubtedly wants to start. Roll the dice and give him $25 million for two years.

If he declined $16 million for one year I doubt he would take $25 million for two years.

He actually declined because he knew the club would. They likely already told him. Not sure he would even get $25 for two years. Probably will be looking for 3 years. He has chronic knee issues.

This projects Eflin at 3 years and $36 million. I guess you can structure the contract in a way to pay more for more innings?

Part of the rotation obviously.  Or would you rather have Clevinger?

He struggles to stay healthy.

And so apparently do Cavalli and Gore. Someone has to pitch. This is why my first post said roll the dice for him. You might have a real steal if he stays relatively healthy. I

I’ll stake the Nats for that $25. It’s the least I can do for not renewing.

I dunno. I just think if you're gonna commit three years, you should get over 120 innings

Even two. It matters more that the team gets a big chunk of innings, even if that chunk is mid-to-high 4 ERA.

This is biggest reason I want ownership in place ASAP. If by some miracle, someone like Click ends up on the market, I want Leonsis to sprint to get him, fire Rizzo, and give Click an empty checkbook to build up the system

Ted will keep Rizzo. Just like he kept Ernie for years. Then hire his assistant. The only important thing to Ted will be on site betting.

So you don't want Eflin who has injury problems but you want Hanigar.  Who has injury problems.  What the heck--go for it.

Eflin wants a multi-year deal. Hanigar will likely be looking for a one year deal.

Padres' Nick Martinez is a free agent. Could be a nice number 4/5 starter
