I can't recall that much beef on the hoof in a Nats uniform - Laynce Nix or Marlon Byrd perhaps.  But with the bonus of actually having hand-eye coordination!
Luke Voit is a finalist for the DH silver slugger award.

Made me look it up. Did not realize that they have like five finalists for each position. Josh Bell also a finalist at DH. Harper missed by one game.

so in a way we have 2 finalists, except Bell didn't DH here.

Oh, and if Soto can get a nomination for RF golden glove, I'd think there ought to be a GG for DH.

Weird how you can reach into another organization and get their player development and management folks

A sensible plan would bring in a guy who goes 150+ innings pretty consistently to go with likely the 3 kids and Corbin, and to have a few guys around like Espino or perhaps Fedde who you could start but rather wouldn't.  If Stras eventually tries to start, I'm sure it will be baby steps and I'm sure they would push somebody aside if they had to.  Maybe a 6 man rotation, or Corbin to the bullpen. Possibly one of the kids gets pulled from the rotation. If Mr. Innings Eater is so effective you don't want to push him aside, then he has trade value.  Embarrassment of riches would be an odd place to end up.
6 man rotation would work. Not like we'd have it for long.

I can see starting Corbin when the season starts but if he starts getting smoked again I wouldn't wait long before putting him in the pen. It would hurt to have a reliever making that much dough but better than an automatic route every 5 days.

I suspect the dealbreaker there was Ozuna's off the field problems, because that deal makes sense from a baseball perspective (and financial, especially if the Braves took all of Corbin's contract).

"The Braves unsuccessfully tried to trade Marcell Ozuna to the Nationals in exchange for left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin before the Trade Deadline. If Atlanta doesn’t find a suitable bad-contract swap, it could keep Ozuna or eat the $37 million still owed to him over the next two seasons."

A mere $37 million for two seasons. Corbin is owed $35.5 million just for 2024. Nats should have done the deal just to DFA Ozuna...would have saved money.

That's why I added the last parenthetical.  I suspect the Braves weren't willing to eat all of Corbin's contract.  The deal makes a lot less sense if you're going to DFA Ozuna and not save much or any money in the process.

The six man rotation appeals to me more and more. Cavalli and Gore will both need their innings limited. An extra day of rest wouldn't hurt Stras either.

Even if you decide to put Corbin in the pen, you could still have 5th starter depth, with Strasburg getting an extra start off here and there on off days.

If Strasburg is on a 6-man rotation it’s a 5-man rotation. Not clear why anyone is considering him at all.

he will get starts if he's on the roster. I see no indication he's not trying to pitch

Last year I thought he had a chance that some here were too pessimistic about his injury. But now I am a firm believer he will never pitch again.  I don’t think another off-season of rest helps him. Not that kind of injury.

But you still have to have a spot for him.

this.  He shows up, he pitches.

TBH, if it is a rib issue (stress fracture) rather than a shoulder issue, I can see Strasburg taking the attitude "I'll just learn to pitch with pain" rather than "F this, I got my money."  He's certain to try. He may not be effective, but he's certain to try. Could get hurt again in a rehab start, but short of that, he'll complete rehab and get at least one start, probably more than one.  Can't build a rotation counting on him to take any sort of workload, but if he's there, he pitches.

6th starter.  Or bullpen.

Theres no way Stras can handle the bullpen.

6th starter but we should have a 6 man rotation

Even without Stras, we should have a 6 pitcher rotation. Cavali and Gore both need to be pitch/inning limited.

Can’t argue with that. Would help Gray also.  Sign a veteran who can pitch lots of innings.

I think that's the obvious move.  Start the year planning around Corbin, Cavalli, Gore, Gray, Innings Eater as doing the bulk of the innings, and Stras pitching as #6 initially once he is ready and we get into the flow of 12-13+ games without an off day.

Then comes a series of if/thens:
1) If Stras somehow manages to stay healthy, then he gets a regular turn.
2) If Stras breaks down or any of the other guys can't be relied on, then have Espino and Abbott (probably, maybe Fedde if he isn't cut) as your long guys capable of spot starting.
3) If Corbin shows he's still a 6+ ERA guy, then consider yanking him from the rotation and see if you can make him into Ian Kennedy.
4) If Corbin or Innings Eater turn out to be brilliant, then explore trades (Corbin we'd still need to eat $10-12 million with the balloon payment his last season).

Looking at the schedule, they have a stretch of daily games from 4/1 - 12.  I don't think you need a 6th starter that early in the year as guys aren't tired and you are building them up. If you do, then Espino / Abbott might be able to cover.  Next stretch of multiple days in a row is 4/25 - 5/10, so you could give Stras a May target to pitch. 5/23 - 6/4 is another heavy stretch.
