I really don't get the vision of this team?  They can't really be dumb enough to think:

A.  All these prospects arrive at the same time
B.  All these prospects hit
C.  To be able to go on a spending spree when they start to arrive to field a good team

They have failed to sign a single player who gives them value or options beyond a deadline flip. With the new draft lottery stupid rules about no back to back too 6 pick. This will be a 10 year rebuild AT LEAST.

Ownership is in literally "sell the team" mode, so 0 incentive to spend any money, and the team is going to be bad, so why should they approve a 4/60 type contract? They are hoping Ted signs the dotted line by July so they can get out of dodge.

Also lol @ 10-year-rebuild. Ted is going to buy the team with a ton of prospects and immediately go try to bring back Soto and load up on veterans.

Yep.

But I don't think Ted is buying the team. The Lerners simply do not compromise in deals. They will wait it out. And the most valuable thing the Orioles own are the TV rights to a top 10 media market in one of the most affluent areas in the country. No one is budging any time soon and Manfred won't step in.

For a bunch of so-called business experts, they tend to leave a lot of money on the table.  Like naming rights for Nats Park.  14 years later, they're still waiting for a top deal?

I mean, don't be ridiculous like Dolphins Stadium which has had what, 8 different names over the decades?  But, how much money have they given up over the last 15 seasons by not signing a deal for naming rights?

Even if they had to settle for less than their target, you'd think a stadium deal would literally add enough to the team revenue to afford a back-end of the rotation starter to eat some innings.

Good signing for sure. 2 years, 13 mil is nothing and he immediately fits into the rotation. I can tolerate the rebuild and winning 65 games or whatever, but I can't handle another season of not having a single SP who can stay under 5 ERA without making it to the sixth inning.

Yeah. Good move.

Convince me on Williams. Don't know much about him.

He's a cheap arm who has proven over the last 2 years that he can get major league hitters out as either a reliever or a spot starter.  That's a lot better than most of what was already on the team.

He appears to be a major league average pitcher that can absorb innings.  Gray, Cavalli, and Gore will not provide nearly enough innings, even if healthy, due to need to manage their innings.  I'd love to see them add one more.

He started 9 games last year, going 2 (knocked out in the 3rd), 4, 4, 5, 5, 4, 4, 7, 5. Overall, 2-4, 4.19 / 1.216 as a starter.  He was much more effective as a reliever posting 2.47 / 1.235 in 51 innings across 21 appearances.  Righties batted just .209 against him, Lefties hit .319.

He's a cheap arm who has proven over the last 2 years that he can get major league hitters out as either a reliever or a spot starter.  That's a lot better than most of what was already on the team.

Yeah, definitely seems like an upgraded Espino.

THAD and T-Will should just be run out there as an opener/bridge arm every fifth day. THAD gives 2-3, Williams 3-4, hand it off to the 6.00 ERA arms to put the game officially out of reach.

Heyman says the Nats and Dodgers are both pursuing Seth Lugo. Maybe they can work out a time share of some type?

This team will need some relievers who can go multiple innings every few days given the uncertainty of how many innings we will get from our starters.  Williams is also an adequate spot starter. I could easily see him picking up 10 or so starts.  Between Ward, Williams, and hopefully Strasburg, we may have the 5th spot behind Corbin and the Kids cover.

seth cummings tweets that the Nats have had conversations with Kole Calhoun. Basically a worse Nelson Cruz / Luke Voit. .196 / .257 / .330 with 12 HRs in 388 ABs last year. Hasn't hit above .240 since 2017.

Actually only one, but it seemed like a reasonable thing to say at the time.
