Ok. GBR wins. They stopped the game after 8. Not sure why. Looked at their roster and did not see any familiar names but Trevor Hoffman is the coach.

The Brits took Regensburg off, so I guess they were rested.

Regensburg takes its name from the Roman fort Castra Regina, founded during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, so it is one of the oldest cities in Germany.

I've only been there once, and spent most of my time at nearby sites like Walhalla, so I can't really speak to the city's Gemütlichkeit, but it is a pretty popular tourist site.

It has the largest baseball stadium in Germany, home of the Regensburg Legionäre, though that doesn't really mean much since baseball is not popular in Germany. Its capacity is about the same as an Independent team in the US, 3000+.

Marlins and Rays would need a lot of visiting fans or a cell phone holster giveaway to hit 3k butts in seats, just sayin'

Marcus Aurelius was the last of the great line of generals at the peak of the empire. Each general that became emperor I think adopted his successor as his heir who then became emperor.

The Regensburg Schweinfurt raid was the end of the magic belief in strategic bombers unescorted could deliver a knock out blow using conventional bombs and the norden bombsight. It was supposed to cripple the supply chain for the military by targeting ball bearing production. The B17 (or was it B24)was supposed to be so well armed that it didn't need fighter escort when it flew in mass formation. It didn't cause longlasting damage, and the bomber losses pretty much ended the use of the unescorted raids out of England (Ploesti might have been later). It did lead to Speer putting a lot of German production underground

Czechs win the Regensburg Group, using only domestic players from their weekend domestic league.

A long and proud tradition going back to the Bohemian knights and the breaking of the Siege of Vienna in 1529.  Suleiman's janissaries could do nothing but scuffle away shaking their heads and staring at the mound.

I believe it is a historical fact that during the Hussite Wars Jan Žižka relied on players from the Czech weekend domestic league to fight the professional players of the Holy Roman Empire.

I thought the weekend domestic league was comprised of elderly housekeepers.

So, Czechs and Great Britain advanced out of the Regensburg group.  The other qualifier is in Panama City.  The two favorites feature Nats minor league pitchers. Rodney Theophile will pitch for Nicaragua, while Alberto Baldonado goes for Panama.  Also in the group are Argentina, Brazil, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

i had never heard of Tito Polo, long-time minor leaguer who last played in the US in 2019. We signed him in December.

All in on Team Czechia. They all have full time jobs. Manager is a neurologist. Lost first qualifier 21-7 and then won three straight to make it   They play in the Tokyo group.
