Its time to shut down Gray. He's simply too tired.

have 2 off days next week so can skip him. Abbott on 9/13, tomorrow's starter on 9/14. Don't need a 5th starter until 9/20.

Yep. No reason to injure him. Or demoralize him.

Late-inning three-run lead. Who pitches the 8th and 9th?

Great!  Nice decision to bring Finnegan out for the bottom of the order, as long as his arm isn't falling off.  Gets right back on the horse. 1-2-3, with pretty decent command, too.  Edwards gets the top of the order in the 9th.

Nice. Get McGee some work.  This meets the Welch criterion of 6 runs ahead or behind.

And of course McGee is nibbling. Bigger cushion, though.

Again, like Gore and Cavalli, what are we gaining

Get him the freak out there and don’t let him go to Philly.

At this point, McGee should be DFA'd and Perez up. He's had one bad outing in the past month

Wasn’t this team supposed to be devastated by last nights loss?

Teams lose like that all the time.  It's baseball.

...and I didn't notice that this would be a get-away day game. So the Nats took two of four, and walloped the Cardinals in both wins. More fun with Natitude.

I am convinced. The Nats gain nothing by pitching Gray. He's done. It might boost the Natitude of fans to see Gore and Cavalli each start a game at the end of the season, but that's not worth much. last I looked, no starters in Rochester can pitch in the majors, so there is a hole in the rotation, but that is no reason to grind on Gray.

And McGee needs to go. Looks like he cannot pitch with a six-run lead, so maybe he is useful only when the Nats are losing by six runs. Here's hoping that never happens.
