Another lonely night in the GDT.

No damage in the first, but Abbott doesn't look destined for a long outing.

Montgomery has looked like Cy Young since coming to the Cards.

Hi.

I thought the name sounded Dutch, but in looking through my German sources, the name appears to be from Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany.

Wasn't Paul Baumer from up there in All Quiet on the Western Front?

Hi.

Nootbar I think is short for fig Newton fig bar.

And "Lars" is just German for "Mars."  He's basically a candy bar filled with a Fig Newton.

Which actually sounds pretty freaking worth the 400 calories.

I don't think the book clearly says, but Bäumer is a fairly generic name in Westphalia and the densely populated lower Rhine region. Not really a north German name

Erich Maria Remarque (born Remark) was from Osnabrück, which is historically part of Westphalia.

Given Hollywood's record with remakes/reimaginings, I cannot say I am looking forward to this.

I think you can still find the entire 1979 version with Ernest Borgnine and John-Boy on YouTube.

That was a TV movie I believe and I don't recall it being very good.  I think there was a 1930s film also.

The TV movie was mediocre. Not bad. Better attention to detail than I would expect of a movie with its budget.

The original is a bit of a classic.

Also,
Yay Cruz for scoring on that with his speed!
