Baseball Dog Name Suggestions
« Topic Start: September 02, 2022, 09:15:15 AM »
So, I took my kids to "Bark in the Park" in Fredericksburg last night, and because I am a big sucker, it looks like we adopted another dog.
Most of my dogs have Tar Heel names, but since this one we got at the ballpark, I only think a baseball name would be apropriate.
So far, we have:
Rookie
Homer
Slugger
Slider
Tater
Dinger
Max,
and Gus
but I don't love any of them.  A friend suggested Finnegan, which isn't bad, but is sure to get vetoed by the rest of the tribe.
So, Nats fans, I humbly ask for your suggestions,
Thank you for any ideas you care to share.

Joey seems to be the obvious choice right now.

Trea.  I don't care if he's not a Nat anymore.  Would be a good name for a fast breed, so if the dog has some greyhound or whippet in his bloodlines, Trea would fit.

Sendley would be a Nat name.

Don't name after a player unless that player is already retired and can't sign/be traded to a rival. Even then, sometimes they embarrass themselves after retirement. I cringe everytime I see a dog, or worse yet an elementary schooler, named Harper here in Arlington. Presumably, lots of people in Boston and Arizona regret naming their dog Curt.

From your list, I like Slugger the best.

Retired player ideas (these seem unlikely to implode in retirement):
Livan
Pudge
Ryan

Nationals-themed ideas:
Screech
Rizzo
Red

Generic Baseball:
Abner
Stretch

Ballpark food:
Frank
Nacho
Halfsmoke (especially if bicolor dog)
Burger

Thanks for this effort.  I think I like Halfsmoke!

We named our cocker-spaniel "Murphy". He is now five years old, and when we got him, Daniel Murphy was the best hitter on the Nats.

With our 2022 Nationals, furry-paws should be called - Loser, Hopeless, Tanker, Three-up-down, Out, or Fedde. But I'm against cruelty to animals... ;)
