Albert Pujols
« Topic Start: August 29, 2022, 11:46:07 PM »
42 year old Albert Pujols has 8 home runs this month as he finishes up on a remarkable career. As I understand it the MLB drug policy is to test each player in spring training and one random test for each player during the season. Could it be Pujols has already been tested during the season. Would MLB test him the last two months of his last season? Just saying.

I'm skeptical that a quick PED campaign for strength after the last round of testing could have resulted in an improvement that fast. OTOH, if there were anything, something like a pain relief steroid that aids in a recovery might be useful. I think that was supposed to be the value of the andro McGwire took.  Honestly though, if concentrating on elevating the ball and studying pitchers approaches using video can improve the power performance of countless mediocre talents, I don't see why it wouldn't work for a great player if he isn't playing every day and has time to work on his approach.  I mean, Boomstick had a great first half last year, too, and he's a shell of himself at this point.

I'd put a $1 on pitchers throwing him meatballs in meaningless games to help him get to 700 before he retires.

Since it was only on Apple TV and no one saw it does that mean it didn’t happen?

So glad he made it!

Well, he did hit 2 last night, and I think 7 in 10 games in August, so why not?   If by some miracle he did it, Hollywood would have to make a tearjerker movie about how, after suffering all those years (i.e., playing with the Angels for so long), he came home to the Cards to pass the Babe in the end.

Janes says:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/09/23/albert-pujols-home-run-700/

Quote
Pujols didn’t need 700 homers to be a surefire Hall of Famer, though he is in the smallest of upper echelons now. Only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth have more home runs to their name than Pujols. Bonds’s numbers are considered tainted by some, his legacy controversial enough to keep him out of the Hall of Fame.

Only nine players have more hits than Pujols. All of them, with the complicated exception of Pete Rose, are in Cooperstown. Only two players, Ruth and Aaron, have driven in more runs. He is the most prolific Dominican hitter in baseball history and the first to cross the 700-homer threshold.

Pujols officially retired yesterday. He posted an .895 OPS this year.

Induction in Cooperstown in 2028.
