Tatis issued a statement saying he took a medicine to treat ringworm without checking to see if it contained a banned substance. He won’t appeal the ban and said it was his mistake.

Dumbest excuse yet  what a fun player he was, freaking sucks for San Diego and for baseball

simple enough. Produce the medicine and produce the prescription.

No problem - all the Padres have to do is convince the UCI that they have a connection to cycling, and they'll give him a TUE... :hysterical:

Tatis's excuse is an insult to the intelligence of fans. Even the dumbest people who follow/write about baseball aren't buying it.

The other thing is that it’s someone whose dad was a major leaguer for many years (in the heart of the steroid / PED era, incidentally) and has been a minor league manager. Perhaps some more MLB-compatible alternative ringworm therapies could’ve been ascertained during that time.

Why, you really a Dodgers fan?

I really don't want them to crash and burn, because I don't want them to trade Soto to the Mets. It seems inevitable if Preller is fired.

I really want them to crash and burn, because I want Preller to get fired. Ironically, Preller is basically the Mets turned into a single human being, assuming he actually is one.

Tatis Sr. managing to make himself look like even more of a dick than his son by calling the suspension a catastrophe for baseball and claiming that this steroid isn't performance-enhancing.

Yep, a random star no one outside of baseball knows of or cares about getting suspended is a real catastrophe

Tatis announces he's going to have shoulder surgery, he's been on the IL twice in the last year with shoulder issues.

we're getting into Strasburg territory as far as bad contracts go.

At least Strasburg did not injure himself in a motorcycle accident.

I've never been a fan of these ultra long term deals and think teams are generally better off trying to avoid them if their goal is to be a contender every year.   You are almost guaranteed to eat some dead money and cbt space on the back end of the deals, and money can usually be smarter spent elsewhere.

There is another downside of signing these guys so young.   A guy like Tatis hadn't even played a full season worth of games when he signed his 340 million guaranteed deal.   If he was still going through his player controlled contracts would he be riding motorcycles, taking steroids (or making whatever mistake he claimed) and doing whatever else reckless stuff he was doing?   Maybe he would, and some guys just can't help making the bad choices.   But I have to think he would have probably turned out better if he spent a few years learning to be a professional athlete and adult and earning that big contract instead of being handed it as a 20 year old.   You give a dozen 20 year olds 340 million and I bet about half of them will have their life go sideways and a good chunk aren't going to be motivated to put in the work it takes to be a perennial all star that is expected for that kind of money.

You are virtually guaranteed to eat some dead years in most free agent deals
