Ped violation. 80 game suspension.

They don’t have to worry about which position he will play now.

Why next year?

Clostebol, a weak anabolic created in former East Germany that is in fact performance enhancing.

They might actually do all right in the lineup in the field without him. It’s the pitching.

BREAKING: San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. has been suspended 80 games for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Tatis, an all-star shortstop, will miss the remainder of this season and the beginning of next after testing positive for Clostebol, a banned substance.

MLB announces Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr has received an 80-game suspension after testing positive for Clostebol, a PED as @JeffPassan said. Stunning development.

The 23-year-old had yet to play this season while recovering from a wrist injury. He finished third in National League MVP voting in 2021 and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s young stars.

This is a developing news story and will be updated.

So off-season motorcycle accident causes him to miss most of the season. And now this. Next they will find out Juan is 29.

Bummer for my fantasy team. Counted on him to help if I made the playoffs. Also just picked up Matt Carpenter before he broke his foot.

Preller came out and publically bad mouthed his player. Dude sounds like sour grapes for sig ing him to that contract. What a chump. Tatis messed up and deserves the concequences, but as your GM, don't come out and basically call him an immature ding dong.

He had every right to. His immaturity cost him most of the season with an injury and now compounded by a PED bust.

If I’m not mistaken, if you serve a PED suspension in a year, you’re not eligible for the postseason. This suspension is going to extend until next season.

Seems kind of unfair if that is so.  But so be it.

His 2022 salary is only 5 million, so it doesn't cost him much money.
Maybe it's not a great idea to sign a 22 year old who hadn't even played a full season to a guaranteed 340 million contract.

What can you do? I'm sure he would have received the best possible medical attention, from the Padres staff - so did someone 'advise' him, or did he just freelance it (a little down-time online reading...) ?    ;)

Ringworm is a fungus. Not totally unusual for athletes in a locker room. You don’t take steroids for a fungus as far as I know. He’s lying as they do when caught.

Only $5 million for him but a $25 million hit against the luxury tax line for the team.

Ah - the old 'took-a-medication' excuse. Straight out of the Festina playbook... :hysterical:

we'll see. I expect J-Rod to get a similar offer.   It's what we should have done with Juan before 2019.

The Padres players pretty much threw him under the bus in the interviews I saw last night. He doesn't appear to be very well liked in the club house.

Good thing they only have him under contract to 2035 :)

Don't see anything here about him being ineligible for the 2023 postseason.  His 2023 regular season suspension is dependent on how many games the Dads play in the 2022 postseason.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34390882/san-diego-padres-star-fernando-tatis-suspended-80-games-here-everything-need-know

"We'll get to the big-picture aspects later, but first the basics: Tatis' 80-game suspension begins Friday and will last through the remaining 48 regular-season games. How long it extends into 2023 will hinge on how deep the Padres play into the postseason, if they get there (they entered play Friday with a one-game lead on the sixth and final playoff spot in the National League). Tatis also isn't expected to be eligible to represent the Dominican Republic in next year's World Baseball Classic."

Tatis was well respected and a role model for children.  What a revolting development. Makes me ashamed to be a fan of MLB.

I've got my suspicions about Matt Carpenter, too, as I did with Posey/Belt/Crawford/Longoria last year.
The penalty for getting caught is but a slap on the wrist.
