When Kyle Gibson is throwing a perfect game after 5 you know you have a crap lineup.

I do.
How is he doing innings wise versus last year?  He might just be tired. I would shut him down a few weeks. He can rest some and then work for n mehchanics.

107 this year. Threw 85 last year.

If he's tired, all the more reason to send him down. Have him do 2-3 inning starts where he throws nothing but fastballs and changeups. Also, Ive heard it pointed that he needs to change his mechanics, in particular his footwork. See no reason not to start that

His confidence looks shot for sure.  Happens to good young players on bad teams. The Nats need a new pitching coach for sure.

If a perfect game happens in Apple TV and only 23 people see it, did it really happen?

Some here will disagree but I think Kyle Gibson would not be a bad signing for the Nats. Maybe two years $20 million. He is durable. And maybe could help some of the younger guys learn to pitch.

No but those HRs against Gray did.

In happier news, James Wood is 4-5 with a HR tonight

Yea. But because we all need more tepidity in our lives, Hassell went 0-5

"4/5 with HR"

As expected.

"0/5"

Clearly bad luck. Nats players can't have bad nights and terrible mafioso GMs can't trade for bad players. We've always been at war with Eurasia.

For the stats geeks: now that the pesky Soto and Bell are gone, does anyone think the entire Nationals roster can compile a negative WAR for the rest of the season?
absolutely if you mean the team total.  If you mean each individual, I don't think so.

I meant the team as a whole.  For every Ruiz, you'll need a Corbin, but this team has a lot more of the latter.

'Tonight wasn't my night..'

Whatever other issues they have, our 2022 Nationals clearly have an excellent 'Master of Understatement' coach.... ;)

All four homers that Gray gave up were belt-high pitches near the center of the plate. :glug: Seems we might have another one unable to learn from his mistakes much less develop into a savvy competitor.
I never liked Gray but I was hopeful he would develop into a decent #4 now #5 starter. He throws his breaking pitches uphill and is belt-high in the center of the plate WAY TOO OFTEN. It appears he hasn’t yet learned much about pitching and relies on raw ability without any smarts. Hard to watch. :hang: If I were Gray’s pitching coach, the Nationals Human Resoures Department would be sending me to Sensitivity Training today.

Tired vs dumb azz??? 🤔

With this result, our 2022 Nationals have reached the point where they now need to (notionally) win at least every other day,  just to keep the loss column to 100...

These pitchers are now all trained to throw their four seem fast balls up in the zone. He just has to do a better job locating. Don’t give up on him yet.

In looking at the stats he pitched about 85 innings last year and now up to about 105 this year. So it is logical he is getting tired. He seemed to do better in June and now trailing off. Agree with Slateman. Just send him to minors or shut him down. No reason to continue to shatter his confidence on this terrible team.

I think they want him to pitch through September.  That seems to be a philosophy in pitcher development.   however, I would suspect they would try to limit his innings to 4-5 per start at this point, especially with a half way decent bullpen now.
