The only thing that looks weirder on the Padres than Soto in their uniform is whatever that thing Snell has growing on his chin.

Soto just grounded out to 1B. It does look strange to see him adopt the Soto-stance in that uniform.

Soto in his Nationals red & white cleats looked odd.

Janes had a chance to interview him in San Diego. He said he never thought the Nationals would trade him but admits he was demoralized with the state of the ballclub

“I never thought they would do it. I was thinking they would try to keep me and try to rebuild the team with me in it. It caught me by surprise,” Soto said in the Padres’ clubhouse as he laced up the other cleat. The New York Mets were beating up on the Nationals on a television hanging a few yards away. “Deep in my heart, I was thinking they wouldn’t do it.”

This is obviously BS

Not so sure, or at least not sure it is obvious.  They did not trade away Harper with even fewer years of control, and didn't let Stras walk. Sure they had the blow up last year, but Soto was so much younger than all those guys.  You also have to recall that Turner was surprised, too.  You have to remember that he's still a young man, a pretty charmed young man the last 7 years or so, so the "it's just business" may not have quite sunk in on him.  It certainly was Boras's obligation to do his best to make sure that his client knew this was a potential consequence, and I have no doubt Boras at least explained it to him, even if it was cursory and against Boras's recommendation.  We can say, "should have known," but Soto really doesn't have an incentive to be dishonest with Janes when he says that in his gut he didn't think this was going to happen.

The offer to Soto was not a serious one. He was probably surprised to find they were just moving on from him early. But he should have known that was a risk and especially given the ownership change pending.

Remember hearing similar with Trea. Of course, how does this jibe with the reported quote about him claiming that he basically had no input into the situation and that it was all up to the agent? I mean, maybe there’s a chance because he had over two years he didn’t think they were going to do it this second, but there was nothing to stop him weighing into the agent and saying for him to make a counter.

When you indicate that you’re going to take things to free agency and don’t make counters and have this particular agent with his priorities and history of gamesmanship and negotiation, where exactly do you think things are going if you don’t weigh in and instead let him do whatever?

Such a shame that things got demoralized in the short space after being in a wildcard hunt at the 2021 All-Star break and then having a speed of injuries indicate it was time to go in the direction of restocking the farm system. Maybe he and Trea could’ve had conversations with their agents back then and gotten some extensions done, and they didn’t even have to be the 15 year variety but something that would keep the lineup core intact while they retooled.

Maybe it can be adjusted to “Soto” at some point for proper distancing

0 for 2 so far today and missed a fly ball that a better OF would have had.

any truth to the rumor that Soto was disappointed to find out that the Channel 4 News Team in San Diego doesn't actually exist?

Nats are 0-3. So we can always beat what they do.

Should be quite a dog fight between Brewers, Cards, Padres and Phillies for the Central and final two wild cards.

1-3, lost 8-3 last night. Can’t win without starting pitching as we all know.

So who predicted we'd Juan Soto making a running catch on a fly ball hit by Trea Turner in a Dodgers-Padres game in 2022?
