New Prediction Contest Re: Win-Loss Record
« Topic Start: August 03, 2022, 10:16:37 PM »
As the stench from what's left of this team grows to an unbearably pungent level, now is the time for you to weigh in and predict their final W-L record. 57 games to go, 35 wins in the book. I'll start. I'm going with 51-111. What say you? Entries posted after Friday night will not be eligible for the magnificent prize package that the winner will receive. Exactly what is that? I have no idea yet, but I'm open to suggestions. In the event of a tie, a coin flip will determine the winner.

You posted multiple times the Nationals should trade Soto. You should be more excited.

I think I had them on 59 wins pre-season.  I'll stay there, even if it seems way optimistic now.

I did and I am. I'm looking forward to moving ahead with the prospect haul and whatever other pieces we already possess that add to it. In the meantime I'd at least like to have a little fun, considering the current state of the team is beyond bad. It's epically bad. Monumentally bad. Once in a lifetime bad. Join in and make your prediction, sunshine guy.

That works out to a 24-33 finish. You are correct - way too optimistic IMO.

Yeah.  My head puts them at more like 50 wins, but I'm too lazy to actually change it and it depresses me to do so anyway.

Maybe this topic gives you the opportunity to officially change it. We'll put you down for 50. Apologies to the mod if I'm violating some sacrosanct pact that was made at season start, but given the circumstances,  I humbly suggest that everyone should be entitled to a Mulligan.

At this point it does not really matter what the final record is. As long as they finish bottom three which seems guaranteed now.  Then watch ping pong balls and pray for some luck.

I'm thinking 50-112 right now.  I think I predicted around 64-98 at that start of the season, but the July implosion killed that.

Without trading away Soto and Bell, the record might have been 54-108.

Yeah, they're 6 games clear of the 4th-worst team, and the Nats' roster is by far the worst in MLB.  The A's would probably take 7 out of 10 from them.

Indeed, but I never implied that it mattered. Make your prediction. If you don't, you might miss out on a prize package that's sure to include Tums and Bromo Seltzer to alleviate the nausea caused by watching  this train wreck.

That's a bold choice. Beat mine by 1. Anyone up for dipping into the 40's?

46-116, 10 more wins this year. That’s it.

As long as our 2022 Nationals get five more wins - so that we don't become the new '62 Mets... ;)

I had them at 58. My new prediction is 51. This is because Rizzo went with both Sanchezs instead of picking up some low cost arms knowing that Ross and Stras were questionable at best. He also killed Adon by trotting him out there when it was evident that he was not ready.

wait - didn't Mulligan play for the Os?  Oh, that was Randy Milligan, so I guess a Mulligan is OK.

For me, I'm thinking 52-110.  With 35 wins banked, 57 games left, I figure they will win 30% of what's left. That's 17, so 52 total.

[edit - it's 36 wins right now, not 35.  105 games played after 8/2.  So one loss banked among the 57 remaining]

Wow. Extremely bold prediction,  but not out of the realm of possibility. That equates to 10-47 the rest of the way, which is entering Cleveland Spiders-like territory.

I will go wild and say 55. Bunch of games against the other bottom feeders like the Reds, As and Cubs.

45 wins, 31 games left. 8-23 to hit 53-109.  I think they top my guess.  59 wins would be 14-17.  Seems a bridge too far.   The 3 high in this thread were 53, 55, and 59.  Rest were lower.

i think i was off by a bit. Didn't account for having the greatest hitting in MLB history on the roster.

Well , I am wrong unless they lose the remaing 16 games. Someone reassure me that they can't lose them all. Not sure they can go 7-9 to reach my original prediction. It's going to be an interesting off-season to see what direction the club is going with new or partial new ownership.

Well they reached 55 and probably will take at least one against the Mets.
