This may be the worst lineup I’ve ever seen on a major league team.

It deserves no fanfare or graphics

Look at the Mets lineup.  Look at the Nats lineup.

Then realize that any three of the Mets first 8 would bat 2-4 (or 3-5 if you're feeling a bit retro) for the Nats.  Any single one of the Mets' first 8 hitters would be the best hitter in the Nats' lineup.

At least Cruz is sitting. We only signed him to flip him. Now that deadline’s passed there’s no reason to showcase him anymore. Let Yadi dh, and play the kids.

veteran presence. He can hit against lefties and otherwise hang on the bench giving tips like, "when you juice, try to find stuff that's new so there's no detection test yet."

And "When you get your retirement contract, make sure you do it with a team that sucks so nobody cares if you can't hit anymore.  They'll let you sit on the bench giving medical advice."

MLB.com appear to think that we could lose all of our upcoming games against playoff contenders (37) - which, I assume, would start with tonight. Can't see the Mutts being as generous as yesterday (must have felt sorry for us... ;))...

No Carpenter post-deadline is something I wouldn't mind being permanent.  Can he be force-included to San Diego?

Now MASN is doing in-game gambling ads?

EDIT: By in-game, I mean Kolko touting a betting line, not ads during the commercial break.

It's a bit much.  While they're interested in feeding addictions that are profitable for major corporations, how about pushing some Camels and Jack Daniels?  At least the last one would make this mess more tolerable.

Also how small-time is it that we have our sideline reporter struggling through play-by-play because MASN is too cheap to have a B guy. YES Network has like 4 different PBP guys they use and we have Bob Carpenter and Dan "catch me at Salt Line" Kolko.

You might soon. But the Nats DFA'd Rogers, so after Adon, who fills out the rotation when the Nats tell Patrick Corbin to take a vacation? Why can't Corbin be sent to the 60-day IL to learn how to be a Crafty Lefty from Anibal, the Crafty Righty who just can't fool anybody now?

I'll sign for that.

I think he'll be fine as a reliever.  He's got two pitches that can work.

But they shouldn't ruin the dude by trying to trot him out there as a starter when he's not ready (and probably never will be in that role) just because the starters ahead of them are equally hopeless.  Anibal Sanchez at least doesn't have a potential future to ruin.

That dude had absolutely no business being on a big league field. Some good stuff but not at all refined.

Yup.  When you have stuff like he does, pitching isn't rocket science.  But it's also not grenade-fishing.   Guys like him are why the upper minors exist.

Like, last year there was a dude on the team in my bunghole AA city.  24, Big-league sibling, big-league stuff, A-ball location at the beginning of the season.  Results were fine when he managed to keep the fastball stay out of the middle of the plate and the slider out of the dirt and at least looking like something to swing at, which didn't happen often together.  He sometimes survived the rest of the time on pure stuff and guys fouling off or popping up mistakes.

But by about July, suddenly the fastball had settled down and the slider was going from outside at the knees to way outside at the ankles and getting swing after empty swing.

He has a 2.05 ERA in the majors this season.

But sending him out in the majors last year would have been a disaster.  Every mistake would have ended up in the gaps or in another state and he wouldn't have gotten the learning opportunity.

Because they like you.  They wanted to spare you.
