I don’t recall a prospect as good as Susana for this team. Maybe Cole Henry before the injury. Susana is special. Not going to argue his BBs are ok, but he has a ridiculous amount of things going for him.

We heard the hype about Cavalli, Henry, Rutledge, Jake Bennett, Dane Dunning, Erick Fedde, Alex Meyer, Mason Denaburg....

None cured issues with injuries or walks, and this org isn't exactly the best at coaching.  Susana's at 20 walks + hit batters in 23 IP at AA.  I'm more excited about Seth Shuman, seriously.

His walks were better last year after the promotion to high a. Starting him in AA this year was aggressive. I’m pretty confident he’ll figure it out and the walks will drop come July an august. That would position him well to be called up early-mid next season

show me the article that hyped Dunning that way. Dunning was a reliever they thought could be a starter and was traded the winter after being drafted. I don't even think he was hyped for size and velo. Meyer got us D-Span, right? Was Rutledge ever an MLB top 20 prospect on any of the major lists? BTW - the huge difference with Cavalli, Denaburg, Henry and I think Bennett is Susana doesn't have an injury history before being acquired.

In fairness, Susana's wildness and reliance on 2 pitches is why he too has always had "reliever risk." But he's shown some pretty decent progress since the middle of last year, so there's a heck of a lot more to be positive about.

no disrespect for shuman . I've been in on him for a while. By the way, you dis Rizzo's 2021 trades, but they acquired Shuman and Millas for Gomes and a another vet ( blanking right now, it's the jack).

Shuman was a throw in from the Yan Gomes/Josh Harrison trade.  Rizzo never talked much about it, or portrayed him, a 6th rounder, as a great prize like he did wild thing Alex Clemmey.   I mean Rizzo also drafted Brad Lord...in the 18th round, he doesn't get man crushes on these slower throwers, but they're the only ones the org ever develops.  And there's no point in losing every year for high draft picks when all the starters outside the Soto trade have come from later rounds.

As of this update, it has been about eight weeks since he was shelved and a team source tells me Susana has progressed to bullpen sessions.

What are the success stories of pitchers who successfully rehabbed their elbow injury while avoiding surgery and the subsequent lengthy recovery? I'm know there has to be a few at least even if most seem to result in needing surgery anyway. Like I've mentioned before I've kinda mentally written Susana off until 2027 at the earliest at this point but it would be good to remind myself of how it might work out after all.

if it was a grade 1 strain, it's possible that the time off was prudent and that he will not need surgery unless it worsens.

Struck out the first batter, got two strikes on the second before that batter grounds out. Four of the pitches at or above (!) 100 mph, and and of them was an 87mph slider. So far, so good.

If his arm is healthy today, then, somehow, Susana is OK. Surprising to me. The announcers were keeping count of his fastballs over 100 mph, and I think they said he had eight or nine.
