Non-Nats Trade Deadline deals
« Topic Start: August 01, 2022, 01:38:49 PM »
Figured I would start a thread for deal not involving the Nats. I’ll start.

Brewers trade Hader to Padres. This doesn’t make sense to me on initial pass.

Small market move we could have made fun of a few years ago.

On San Diego's part or Milwaukee's?

Hader is nearing the end of his elite abilities as a back-end reliever and the Brewers are smart enough to realize it's better to replace him early than wait too long.

It’s weird because the Brewers are leading the division and will probably make the playoffs.

Eh, Hader isn't the Hader of old, and the hype of the trade is more on what Hader used to be. Now this kind of looks like Milwaukee is getting the better end of the deal. Rogers will slot in as a fine closer for Milwaukee AND the Brew Crew gets some prospects.

Astros acquire Trey Mancini, not sure I understand why the Orioles made this deal.

With Montas, Mancini, and Castillo off the board, I'd say Contreras, Bell, and Soto are the big fish left.

They got a good reliever and prospects for a very replaceable reliever.

Tommy Pham from Reds to Red Sox. Hope they have the right fantasy football league for him.

Christian Vazquez from Sox to Astros.

The best part of that story was Vazquez was traded AFTER he was in meetings with Red Sox pitchers about how they were going to attack Astros hitters

Also, Diekman for Reese McGuire. I guess they end up with more years of control.

I get it. This isn't your championship year. But I don't agree with it. Eventually, baseball is about winning and you've made your fans suffer for years.

Their fans seem oddly chill with it. They've probably all been broken after past few seasons.

I think they re-sign him in the off-season. He loves it there. The fans love him.

Gallo to the Dodgers, sounds like he had a really rough time in NY.

So the Brewers traded Hader for the Padres closer, a prospect, and righty Dinelson Lamet. The Brewers just DFA'd Lamet. Flier pick up for us?

I gotta ask why? Lamet has had one good year, in 2020. He is dreadful now. Like Corbin dreadful. Do we think this organization can fix him? Think I would rather give playing time to younger guys in September.

Because he has another year of control? Aside from the fact that our development sucks, he is worth taking a flier on, seeing if he can figure it out, and can be dealt next deadline. If not, who cares? The Nats are a bottom feeder right now while they literally restart the whole franchise. This is the perfect type of signing.

Mancini will be back in Baltimore.

The reason Baltimore talk radio consistently gave for Mancini being traded was his contract had a mutual option for 10 million dollars for next year and the O's weren't going to meet it so they wanted something for him.

I think the biggest question is if you're in a pennant race why did the Orioles trade the hottest closer in baseball in Jorge Lopez. As it was if they were ahead after 6 innings it was pretty much over with Perez, Bautista and then Lopez.
