Soto was calling for it.

Robles stopped due to that.

Corbin out of the game - should leave him in until his arm falls off

So the MLB player doing color knows less than you.  CF always takes that ball.

Robles should have taken it. He deferred to Soto on a fly-out earlier in the inning, and for some reason he hesitated on the later one rather than calling off Soto.

Of course Patrick Corbin craps the bed worse than he has his entire career right before Rizzo may have tried to sneak him in a trade.

He was already a toxic asset, but had to epically remind teams of that in what may be his last start pre-deadline.

I watched the replay again. See no indication at all Soto called for it. Even if he did Robles should have been calling for it all the way. Lazy play by him.

At least if Corbin had started in front of the Cardinals in the next series, they could’ve had all their top people on it and have them imagining how they could fix everything.

wow.  I'm used to this board having a melt down about Corbin when he gives up a run or two, but 6 runs in the first is not even typical of a bad Corbin start.  I mean, when you give up 6, it isn't even "let's get this game over and go home" kind of mailing it in.  This kind of performance causes delayed flights back home.

Corbin was already an bad asset. But had he eeked out 5 IPs and 3 ERs today, he'd have had a sub 6.00 ERA another team could convince themselves he was a mopup guy out of the pen. Instead, he pulls this crap.

I honestly can't blame him, he's been garbage for how many years and yet we just keep trotting him out. He clearly cannot pitch anymore.

Honestly, his performance is about what I'd expect our next man up to give us. Sweet farm system we have.

Is Corbin the poster child for the sunk cost fallacy?

It's not a fallacy.  He's getting paid whether he pitches or not.  No sense having him pitch just because he's getting paid a lot when a guy like Erasmo can be more effective.

Put Corbin in the bullpen and be done with him. Don't waste coching-time trying to fix him. Just don't let him start ever again. Pitch him an inning or (maybe) two in relief. Maybe bring back Adon, who deserves a season in AAA. Treat Adon as a Red Wings starter and give him coaching.

And, yes, I tuned it, saw 6 - 0, and immediately looked to see who had started. Of course...

Do you have $55 million to burn?  That's what it would cost the Nats to DFA him, which they are not going to do and would be foolish to do.  Put him in the bullpen for a while and see how he does.
