For comparables: Frank Howard struck out 29 or 30% of the time until 1969, when he finally got a hitting coach. Ted Williams let Wayne Terwilliger ("Twigs") manage the team while he worked with the hitters. That changed with Williams. The two kids just got out of high school, so this is the first chance that they have had serious coaching, of the sort that Howard finally got in 1969.
