Nationals @ Braves, Game 3
« Topic Start: July 10, 2022, 12:47:12 PM »

     @

Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves
Where: Truist Park
When: July 10, 2022 PM 1:35 PMEDT

Paolo Espino (RHP, 0-2, 3.33 ERA, 4.40 FIP) vs. Ian Anderson (RHP, 7-5, 5.09 ERA, 4.44 FIP)

Nationals

1. Luis Garcia (L) SS
2. Josh Bell (S) 1B
3. Juan Soto (L) RF
4. Nelson Cruz (R) DH
5. Keibert Ruiz (S) C
6. Yadiel Hernandez (L) LF
7. Ehire Adrianza (S) 2B
8. Maikel Franco (R) 3B
9. Victor Robles (R) CF

Barves

1. Ronald Acuna Jr. (R) RF
2. Dansby Swanson (R) SS
3. Matt Olson (L) 1B
4. Austin Riley (R) 3B
5. Marcell Ozuna (R) DH
6. Eddie Rosario (L) LF
7. William Contreras (R) C
8. Orlando Arcia (R) 2B
9. Michael Harris II (L) CF

Notes:  Anderson gave up 4 ER in 4 IP his previous start vs. the Nats at Nats Park on 6/13. This is Espino's first start vs. Barves this year.  He had a 3 inning relief appearance on 4/12 when he gave up 3 runs (1 HR).  Espino's overall ERA is good, but he's been much better as a releiver than as a starter. He has a 4.91 ERA over 5 starts and 22 IP this year.

Robles gets a start in CF.  With Cesar getting a day off, top of the order looks different, with Garcia and  Bell batting in front of Soto.  With 3 lefty hitters and 3 switch hitters in the top 7, looks like Davey is taking advantage of a platoon advantage, but Anderson has had much more success against lefties (157 batters faced, OPS .634, wOBA .291) than righties (203 batters faced, OPS .888, wOBA .383)

This is incidental to this game, but can we please never see Lane Thomas batting leadoff again?

are you saying he's pluck your eyes out bad, or are you asking Davey to make a change to his approach?

I don't think "or" is the correct conjunction for those propositions.

Seeing as that game happened in about 1998, do you think Castillo could have run around the bases a second time yet at the pace he was going?

Perhaps not.  The '98 Blue Jays were pretty much a 'roid train.

Best inning I've seen Finnegan pitch in a while.

Makes me nostalgic for Standard Decision. Finnegan for the 7th, Edwards for the 8th, Rainey the 9th. This bringing guys back after sitting a half inning doesn't work for these guys

Worked this time.

I have Robles hit away. I maybe try a bunt for a hit. Oh, well. As I type

I prefer 3 shots at scoring from 2nd to 2 shots to score a guy from 3rd
