Wizards (2022-2023)
« Topic Start: June 29, 2022, 12:37:29 PM »
Wizards acquiring Will Barton, Monte Morris from Denver for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith.

Seems to be a good deal for Washington though it further thins them at PG.

Morris was the starting PG for Denver last year. Not an all star but an improvement on what the Wizards had. Ish was a backup and Sato returned to Europe.

I was about to post that the Celtics (per Boston.com) were supposed to be interested in KCP using their $17.1 million traded player exception.

Bradley Beal declines the 1 year player option from the Wizards and is now a free agent.  This isn't unexpected. He can now sign a 5 year super-max deal with Washington for $250 million or a 4 year deal elsewhere for $180 million.

And just like that he goes from trade asset to cap burden.

This is as surprising as MDS telling us to not wear a mask.

he apparently wants to play with Tatum, but there's a question of whether the Celtics would be willing / able to do a sign and trade.  They would be hard-capped and have to give up talent and picks to make it work, and they'd be stuck way over the tax level.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait that long.

Edit. I thought you meant Beal.

A quarter of a billion should keep him happy for a while. He better get a lot better if he wants to get traded because his contract is an albatross right now

I did. KD will sign a supermax and his 34 year old body will  break down. KD will miss 30 games, Beal will get salty when Durant averages 18 pts a game and he's left with 6 other D-League guys to try and win 35 games.

That’s not how the CBA works- trades have to match salary

Wiz are said to be after John Collins from the Hawks, I guess as an upgrade to Thomas Bryant. Anthony Gill has resigned as well.

What are they planning on trading to get him? It seems like they’re determined to secure a playoff berth even though none of these moves will get them out of the first round

Probably Kuzma as that’s whose spot he would have. Kuzma is a free agent after this year and will probably want what Collins makes. $25 million. Throw in Rui.

I don't see Kuzma going anywhere, but they could part with Deni, Rui, and some draft picks. I think they are still around $10 million under the cap but I'm not sure.
