Follow the Prospects: Alex Troop, LHP
« Topic Start: June 26, 2022, 10:03:49 PM »
Full Name: Alex Troop
Age: 25(July 19, 1996)
Birthplace: Batavia, IL
Bats/Throws: L/L Ht: 6' 5" Wt: 210
Draft: Round 9 (2017, WSH)
School: Michigan State

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=troop-000ale

Troop has been successful at every level since being drafted in 2017.

2017 - 2.79 ERA over 38.2 IP in his rookie year across three levels out of the bullpen.
2019 - 2.18 ERA over 44 IP across Auburn and Hagerstown with 49 strikeouts and only three walks on the season.
2020 - Who knows
2021 - 3.35 ERA over 83.1 IP across Wilmington and a late call up to Harrisburg, mostly out of the pen. 100 strikeouts with 15 walks
2022 - 3.35 ERA 1.13 WHIP 59 strikeouts and just 14 walks over 48.1 IP. Out of the pen to start the season before starting his last four outings.

Troop has consistently shown the ability to throw strikes at all levels and has been stretched out as a starter going 4-5 innings at times. He will be 26 next month and should be someone who gets a look after the bullpen sell-off at the deadline. A lefty out of the pen who throws strikes is a very valuable commodity.

Too bad he's not at Fredericksburg, he could have had a cheering section called the "F Troop"

Yeah, I'm dating myself.

didn't they call them the "Heckawee"?  The joke is the Fukawee, but I thought it was censored.

IMDB:

"Wild Eagle belonged to the Hekawe (pronounced "Heck-cow-wee") tribe. One episode explains that the name came about by when two Indians fell off a cliff and one asked "Where the heck are we?" The original name of the tribe, the Fugawe (as in, "Where the Fugawe?"), was rejected by network censors."

I was there. It was not pretty. But in fairness, he was being squeezed by the home plate umpire. Lots of chatter from the dugout directed towards the ump, to the point where blue shouted, ”I don’t want to hear it!!!” while pointing to the Senators’ dugout. You could just feel that someone was going to get thrown out. When Delino DeSchields came to take Troop out of the game, Troop started screaming at the ump. The ump screamed back and promptly tossed him. We were sitting in the second row behind the Senators dog out, and when Troop got to the dugout, there was a distinct sound of something being slammed and a very loudly screamed F word.

DeSchields and the ump also had a few words, but no ejection occurred.

I think this validates WJ’s observation about the umpiring in his previous start.
