Without the deferred money I do believe Harper returns to Washington. That may of been a bad thing as we don't know if the Nats win the world series in 2019.
According to Harper the Astro's offered him a one year deal for a stupid amount of money that he briefly considered. The Dodgers offered him a 4 year deal at 45 million a year but he didn't want to be a free agent again in four years. The Giants offered him 12 years and 310 million. The White Sox were in the running for a while but pulled out. Thus he ended up taking the Phillies offer.
