Nice debut at AAA: 5IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 5K,

This is the kind of pitcher we need, good control and can go 6 innings frequently.

Good game: 5 1/3, 5 hits, 0 BB, 5 K

ERA now 3.07

Whoever falls next out of the MLB staff should be replaced by him.  His P/IP is under 15, and he’s got 6 inning potential.   Has earned at least a shot at the Nats 7 ERA bullpen

If they get anything out of Shuman after his injuries, that's vindication for another Rizzo trade.

It is no more a vindication than his decision to draft Brad Lord a few years ago in the 18th round.  Rizzo spent the offseason talking about Jake Bennett and other man crushes, he has not learned a thing after all the draft, development and trade busts involving the power pitchers he's fallen in love with.

What's wrong with Jake Bennett? He tore a ligament and had TJS. Now he is pitching again, which is good, isn't it?

He's not even close to being next in line for an MLB callup with Shuman out there...unless Rizzo decides to forget stats and performance and just play the man crush.

next in line? No. But talk to me in September.

It's funny because you have me arguing against something I'm sympathetic to. I do think pitching can come from unexpected paths like later picks and that stuff and "projectability" can be overblown. But I wouldn't discount a guy coming off injury any more than I would an 8th round pick who limits walks, gets some Ks, and is efficient
